Pfaff 139, need to replace motor to fly wheel round belt

First I'd like to say Thank You for this site!!! My vintage PFAFF 139 needs to have it's round motor to fly wheel belt replaced. Is this something I can do myself, and if so, how do I replace it? Also, what is the correct belt length needed for it if I was to purchase a new one on-line? Thank you in advance!

I figured out to remove the belt. I removed the top of the machine, to access the belt, I then discovered I would need to pull the handwheel off to allow the belt to come off. This I did by unscrewing the small screw on the small round locking wheel in the center of the hand wheel, and gently screwing it off counter clock-wise. I gently pulled the hand wheel off the shaft, just enough to remove the belt. I then put all parts back together. So now I know how to physically remove the belt, and will just need to purchase a new one.

There are plenty of sewing machine belt suppliers on ebay. A 41/2" diameter universal rubber belt should fit your machine

SOURCE: changing Pfaff 1222 sewing machine belt

Have a look at this: remove the top cover and have a look (don't put your fingers in !) at the plastic gear in the middle of the mechanism (left side of he selection keys). It often cracks and then the motor is able to turn the whole mechanism for part of the circumference of this gear and when it passes on the crack, it locks or slows down until the crack is passed. You need to have it changed if this is the case.

SOURCE: How to replace light bulb at Pfaff Creative 2124?

On these machines you cannot open the left side to remove the bulb. Your machine accessory kit should have come with a rubber tool that is ribbed with a cup-shaped opening on either end. This is a tool for removing the bulb. Tilt the machine with the base facing up so you can see where the bulb is and use this tool to twist the bulb gently. It sould come out with no problem! Hope this helps!

SOURCE: I have a Pfaff 1222E sewing machine which needs a new motor

Good for you, to repair a great machine instead of buying some more modern, disposable machine!
I found a generic motor that will fit your machine at http://www.pfaffmachines.co.uk/partsDB/index.php?function=detail&recordID=185. Free delivery within the UK, but that doesn't help much, does it? There's several places in the U.S., like http://www.a1sewingmachine.com/parts.html http://www.sew4less.com/QuickSearch.php http://sewingpartsonline.com/
You'll probably need to look for a generic motor for your Pfaff, but they should be out there.
I did check eBay; they do have generic sewing machine motors, but unless you're very experienced with eBay, I'd be very careful there.
Check with your local sewing machine dealer/repair place (even if they don't carry Pfaffs). Maybe they can help.
Good luck--I wish I could be more helpful, but let me know if anything I've sent helps, ok?

Pfaff 1050S Sewing Machine. Hand wheel / gear problem?

My first thought was the the clutch on the handwheel was not tightened up. In the 'old days' machines has a knob in the centre that disconnected the drive.

Or the motor drive belt is broken, stretched, or not on the pulleys.

Pfaff are belt driven, but not much on yours.

The flywhee on my pfaff 1471 seems to have disengaged after unsuccessfully winding a bobbin. The motor goes but the needle does not go. What to do?

Did you turn the knob inside the hand wheel backwards while holding the wheel itself? If that knob is in the correct position, did you hear it snap into place when you rotated the hand wheel towards yourself? Does the needle bar move up and down when you rotate the hand wheel?

I suspect that the needle bar is still disengaged from the motor mechanism. The manual is available from Pfaff on the creative 1471 page: http://www.pfaff.com/en-US/Machines/creative-1471 . The direct link to the manual is http://www.pfaff.com/SiteMedia/PFAFF/Products/Machines/Support-manuals/creative1471-manual-EN.pdf . See page 13 of the PDF for the picture of the direction and position of the knob that should be checked.

If the machine still doesn't work, it may be that the belt is bad. This connects the shaft of the motor to the mechanism that runs the needle bar. You can find a parts list for the 1471 here: https://www.universalsewing.com/tek9.asp?pg=parts_pfaff . Scroll down to find the various 1471 diagrams. The belts are probably available at most Pfaff or other sewing machine dealers. This page, https://www.sewingpartsonline.com/pfaff-1471-sewing-machine-parts.aspx , is one source. You want the motor belt.

I hope this helps.

My pfaff 7570 has stopped and the fly wheel will not move.

Forcing it may break some important parts. I recommend taking it for service.

I just inherited a Pfaff 139. Can you tell me what year it was made? I tried sewing with it and I think the belt is a little old. On the bottom of the machine there are these letter: GZ-01022. On the front...

Hi! Congratulations! I just read a great review of your machine at http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/sm/readsmreview.pl. One of the things the reviewer noted is that the 139 wasn't designed by Pfaff. It was designed by another sewing machine company (the GZ in your serial number) that Pfaff had bought. The machine dates to the 1950s.
Statewide sewing (http://www.statewidesewing.com/#Accessories) has a great selection of belts.
Hope this helps!
