Burning laptop smell Asus x53e

The cooling fan is attached to a heat sync over the CPU. When dirt or dust collect, the fan tends to slow down and the heating becomes intense. Sooner or later, the CPU will shut down and the system will die. Clean with a can of air to remove the debvris.

Acer Aspire 5742, Completely Shuts off, error free, randomly.

If your computer is shutting off randomly, there could be a multitude of issues. Most of the issues are hardware related.

1. If you're able to use your computer for a little while, and it randomly shuts off, it could be one of a few things.

a. Overheating processor: You may need to replace your processor, or clean out the inside of the computer.
b. Fans not working: Your fans could be disabled, and keeping the computer from receiving cooling which can overheat the processor as well as other vital components.
c. Dying battery: The battery in your laptop may be going bad, and could need replacement. Does it charge completely, or does it only fill up partially after a long period of charging? If it's the latter, you will need to replace it.
d. Dying hard drive: While this one isn't as likely, and usually doesn't cause the computer to shut off instantly, it's still something to consider.

2: If your computer shuts off before the desktop even loads, it's most likely a hardware problem.

a. Dying battery: Again, your battery may be dying, try removing it and keeping the laptop plugged in when you turn it on.
b. Broken hard drive: Your hard drive may be broken, try finding an external hard drive with Linux or another operating system installed on it, and go into the BIOS when your computer first starts up. Find the "Boot devices" option, and tell it to make the primary boot device the external device with the operating system installed on it. If the computer starts up fine after that, you may need to re-install your old operating system, or replace your hard drive.

My gateway m520x will run shutt down

Sorry you are having trouble. Laptops run a little hot but I think you are right about the overheating. The cheapest fix is to get an underneath cooler from somewhere like Best Buy. They sell for around $20. To really fix the problem will require finding out why it is getting hot. Usually this is a program that is "hogging" the processor's time. There are programs available that will make your fans run faster and processor run cooler. Some are free. Some cost a lot. If the fan has stopped or slowed it needs to be replaced. If you are very patient you can attempt to replace it yourself but be aware many a laptop has died as a result of being opened improperly. My advice is take to a shop if under cooler does not help.
I hope this helps

I have a new(2 week old) E6400 Dell latitde. It got hot and now when I press the power button to turn it on the fan is running on high and the computer makes a beep and immediatety shuts off. How can I fix...

is this computer under warantee being new? if so contact dell for service..
this is usually a telltale sign of processor overheating.
unplug it from the wall and let it cool for 30 minutes. restart it, make sure your not laying it on a blank, your lap, or any other surface that will block the vents on the side bottom or rear. I always put mine on the table or a book, any flat hard surface is good.

if it still shuts down after a few mnutes , i would contact dell warantee support.

I have had a Sony Vaio notebook, refuses to start

I would bet it is the DC power jack. It's like the biggest problem that I fix with laptops. Some people change the whole motherboard, but even if you search online, its that little circular power port that is usually the culprit. AND, they do work, then die, work, die, etc.

This usually proves it: When you plug in the AC adapter, when the laptop is dead and not turning on, your battery charging LED also does not go on right? If so, I would be that's the problem, you can have the port changed, but a lot of people really charge a fortune when it is a simple job. Contact me if you'd like, I do repairs.

Good luck!

my opinion if it powers but not boot its a hardware problem ...mostly Ram memory ...but if sometimes do not even power up the led or doesn't make at least a click like it trying to **** again an again ..that means that is something with the power system ...and has positions when some contacts are ok and works ...or so ...I can not be sure from what you told here ...but in general there can not be other cause but either physical ( electric) on the power source ..or the boot system messed up ...
