Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV30E Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Horizontal bars on playback plus sometimes no recorded picture

Most of the time my DCR-TRV30E works just fine, however from time to time horizontal bars appear on playback. These are made up of 6 static bars from the last frame taken (like the wipe function) and six bars of the new clip which are moving with sound. The picture then pixelates like a special effect and returns to normal. I have also recently had a section of tape with absolutely nothing on it, no sound, no picture, just a blue screen. This camera has been well looked after and has recorded less than 20 hrs of video since new. I always use Sony tapes. The local Sony dealer has tried a head cleaner but now suggests sending it to the repair shop which charges a minimum of GBP 180 regardless of the cost of the repair. Has anyone a better suggestion as at that rate the camera may as well be put in the bin.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Horizontal bars on playback plus sometimes no...

Not a solution sorry, but just to note that I have the same problem on TRV30e. It's intermittant an relatively rare, so haven't bothered getting it fixed. Seems related to certain types of DV tapes - if I change tape the problem often goes away.

On the Sony DCR-TRV320E video camera I get two wide horizontal bands on playback and the audio is intermitant. What is the cause?

Having used a cleaning tape several times to no effect. I then went to record, to see if the bands appeared in recording mode. They didn't. So I went back to playback mode and the bands had disappeared.

Recording and Playback error

I'm not sure what the solution is, but I am having the same probelms, and I would appreciate any help with this since I am shooting a childrens camp and I am fairly isolated and don't have the time to swop cameras or send it to get fixed. I need to know if the recording is fine (video and audio) but the playback is not working correctly...or is it not recording correctly or playing back correctly. The sound cuts out from time to time in playback. Thank you.

Black screen in REC mode, bars across the screen in Playback mode

My advice is that you should by a DV cleaning cassette. Put this in the camera and run it for 10 to 20 seconds only. running the cleaning cassette for a long time may damage the head.
good luck!

Distorted picture when looking through view finder or lcd screen

the video playback is sampled off the video out and independently processed sorta like a TV signal to project on the lcd screen.
horizontal lines means you lost sync circuit and needs troubleshooting. Hopefully maybe a bad connection with a ribbon cable for the ICs and components are hard to change and jammed tight. I would order a video board.

Lines like strips horizontally across the LCD !!!!!

I had same problem. Don't buy a cleaner. Look inside camcorder and make sure both reel turners are equal in height...they can slide down. Turn both of of mine was down and also did not turn to make contact with tape. We got it to turn and the message C31:23 and the dinging quit. Camera instantly worked like it used to. Good luck.
