Question about Nikon COOLPIX L3 Digital Camera

Computer not recognising Coolpix camera

I've tried several times plugging in my camera to upload photos but the computer says it doesn't recognise a camera being there (despite acknowleging that something is plugged into the USB port). Any tips? thanks very much.

I think you need to install the driver for the camera..if you have the CD when you bought the camera then try running the CD and check for driver there. however if you don't have a CD for the driver.

try checking the website of the camera manufacturer...usually they have a driver available for download.

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

Check by plugging it into the other USB Port, sometimes a port refresh helps, Some times if you start up your mac with the camera plugged in it only thinks it has a drive there...swap to the other drive and wait to see if it is recognised, you can also open drive utility and look for it there as a Plug in Drive... this may help as it may show up there unmounted, if so then click the Mount Button. ...C
