Question about Sanyo EM-U1000W Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Microwave will not work

Got up one morning and the micowave will not work.  We just used it the night before. Cooked baked potatoes and green beans..back to back for about 30 minutes total.

It is plugged in and the outlet works for other things.  The display is blank and the unit doesn't seem to have any power for anything.

The inside of the door has a sticker describing a fuse, but could it be the problem and if so, where is it?  The owners manual makes no mention of it.

It's only 3 or 4 months old.

Re: Microwave will not work

This is still under warranty, so I would not recommend voiding your warranty by attempting repair.

I would call Sanyo at the number in your manual and ask for the nearest authorized servicer so you can take it in for repair on their dime.

If it's an over the range model, I would make sure to have a second person to help remove it from the wall.

If I had to bet, I'd say thge temperature fuse / thermal fuse / thermostat on the magnetron is open, but it may be the power fuse.

Please post back if you need more help, or if you decide to work on it yourself.

you do not need to triple the time when tripling the quantities, example: one baked potato = 8 min, 2 = 10 min,3= 12 min ....

sounds like a triple batch is a bit much for your microwave
so you may want to cut it in half

While baking a sweet potato, the potato exploded and caught on fire. The microwave no longer works.a fire bro

I haven't heard of such a thing. You must have cooked it until there was no moisture left in the potato. That would also account for the failure of the oven. It would be the same as no load in the oven.
A thermal protect part is your current problem.

Auto Cook not working

If autocook is not working and everything else it, there is an issue with the sensor in the oven that detects the steam, The emission of steam is what triggers that unit to shut off. If it wont cook on any settings then the issue is with the microwave generator not putting out enough power. This could be from a lot of things.

GE microwave not heating, sensor error.

first suspect is the inverter board (power) and magnatron a distant second----in either case the part involved unless an expensive unit is pricey.

It is time to replace the microwave oven, it is 11 years old and prices in microwaves has dropped considerably. To repair the old! magnetron would need to be replaced, "most expensive part" and other unknown problems would need to be addressed.

How do you use auto defrost

Auto defrost is rather clever. There is a sensor that detects moisture evaporating from the defrosting food. I won't go into the equasions used to work out the optimum point at which the food is defrosting, it suffices to say that when the moisture content in the exhaust air reaches a predetermined point, it is thawed out. If it reaches a higher point, for baked potatoes for instance, they in turn will be cooked.
Hope this helps.

No! But it will need to be repaired. Did you wrap the potatoes in tin foil? The reason for the smoke needs to be found and repaired. Smoking means a short or a part shorted, failed, or wires touching another wire that did not blow any fuss. That is not good.
Trained technicians can help the mfg improve their products if they find the problem and report it to the Mfg.

That was a very long duration to have set for potatoes. It would have made the magnetron burnt by exeeding the limit and findinf there was no conductive medium by moisture , it has ended up burning the magnetron.
First of all clean up the inside and clean up the point of the magnetron beam. Now confirm on the inside to be totally dry.
Disconnect power and check inside for break of fuse to the magnetron. If the microwave does not heat on testing with a cup of water , then it is possible that the magnetron is cooked.
Confirm the cost for the unit to decide on replacement.
Hope this helps.
