I bought this propane range for my wife a copule years ago, and it always seemed to have a problem with the "self clean" feature. We have had other ranges that cleaned the ovens pretty well (white powder residue left), but this oven does not seem to do anything to the material (grease etc.) in the oven?
The glass never cleans either (have to use a fireplace type glass cleaner).
I have called the Company, and they said the over should heat up to about 700 degrees to clean, however I bought it at sears, and the sears man doesn't have any idea, or can even check what the temperature is supposed to be inb the oven.
Please help.
A thermostat that fails at high temp could cause a false temp reading causing the oven not to get up to that 700 deg mark.
any thermometer that would be rated to up to 1000 deg would work, then use self clean and see how high it goes
try to find a digital with a wire probe
600 is just not hot enough, though it sounds like your thermostat is working there is only 2 other things that it could be. The control is the most likely. The other is a weak bake element, but if it was weak it would always be on. I think it is your control.

Thank you.
Is there a thermometer I could get to check the temperature to see if it was heating up properly?
The sears guy doesn't seem very knowledgable on this.
Thanks,
I am having a hard time finding an oven thermometer that goes that high?
Any suggestions?
I see some probe thermometers....but I don't know if the whole mechanism can go in the oven?
Okay,
I got a digital thermometer.
I did several checks.
My wife said she thought I made a mistake and GE said around 800 degrees for self clean (not 700).
OVEN THERMOMETER
275 282
350 373
425 444
550 562
After over 1 1/2 hours in self clean cycle the thermometer only got up to 600-625?
What do you think?
Thanks
