Why would you not offer condolences to the father of the one who passed away?

99% of belts on riding mowers are spring tensioned. If all of a sudden a belt is too loose, it usually means that one of the components involved has failed.
Suggest you come back with more info and maybe some pics.

Take that serial number to any JD dealer . They can run the serial number through their system and give you the info you need. It will show up if reported stolen.

Please check the scanner driver of DCP-330P on your computer. It may has not installed yet. A new printer usually equipped with necessary drivers. Please install it on computer and seek for scanner after installation and follow further info on your screen. You can also use scanner and copied sheet from printer.

if unit is ohv engine - i gather unit is using oil ?

may have a blown head gasket and air filter may be oil / petrol soaked
restrcting air flow

check oil level is correct ( and does not smell of petrol ) wet sumped and breather is working ( not stuck closed )

check for tight valve clearance

if all these are ok then might suspect worn rings / bore ?


may need further info on engine model - type
