Hp deskjet f2280 printer has the "'The print cartridge cradle cannot move" error

Right as the paper starts to roll out after it has finished printing, it stops, and the carriage gets caught on the left side. It clicks loudly.

This "plastic strip" is called the "carriage encoder strip". This strip dictates the timing of the carriage assembly. If the end slots aren't broken, you can re-attach it. Otherwise, you'll need to replace it. They are about $10.

SOURCE: Carriage error Hp F2280

Same thing happened to me and I took it back to the store, where I bought it from. They replaced it with a new one and told me that it didn't have any software installed, like if you have a motherboard without bios ..

"The print cartridge cradle cannot move."
I fixed this problem by disconnecting the power cord from the power-strip and connecting it directly into the wall. My printer was not getting enough voltage from the power-strip. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: I have a HP C3100 print cartridge cradle cannot move

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who has had this problem without a solution. I found that by moving the print cartridge (with the power on) all the way to the left, closing the door, powering it off, then powering it back on, then doing the test print (cancel and color start copy key), it would print. Had to do this 2-3 times. Then tried printing a document and it printed. So far, it 'appears' to be working OK. Hope it keeps working, otherwise I will just have to get another printer...

How do i change the ink cartridge on my printer

These are the steps on how to install/replace cartridge(s) on Hp Deskjet 5550.
  • Press the POWER button to turn on the printer.
  • Open the top cover. The cradle moves to the center of the printer.
  • Open the cradle latch.
  • Slide the print cartridge out of the print cartridge cradle and discard it.
  • Remove the replacement print cartridge from its packaging and carefully remove the plastic tape. Hold the print cartridge so that the copper strip is on the bottom.

Cartridge cradle can't move, says paper is empty when it's not

OK....try removing the carts, close the printer, turn off, then disconnect...alot of the problems with the newer HP printers has to do with their ROM memory....if that doesn't work, then there is defintely something in the paper path, no matter how small. Try to eliminate the copy function....does the error happen as soon as the printer is finished powering up??

unplug the printer and try to move carriage by hand, if it does not move, the carriage mechanism is broken, if it does move, plug the unit back in, if same error occurrs, it is an issue with the printer carriage mech.

Printer Cradle does not remove to center of cradle rod

Bad cartridge carrier, probably uneconomical to get it fixed. However, try unplugging the power cord for 10 seconds. Good luck.

I need step by step instructions as far as how to change cartridges in hp deskjet 5440 printer

[This is from HP.com]

Introduction This document explains the basics of installing or replacing the print cartridges. It is for a 5940 which is the same printer design, yours may look a bit different but I copied this from HP at the section for your printer so follow the instructions and you should be okay.
Insert the print cartridges
NOTE: The printer shown below is the HP Deskjet 5940 series printer. Your printer might look slightly different.
  1. Turn the printer on. The cartridge cradle will not move if the power is not on.
  2. Open the printer cover. Figure 1: Open the cover c00393707.gif
  3. Wait until the print cartridge cradle moves to the right side of the printer and is idle and quiet.
  4. If you are replacing a print cartridge, press down on the print cartridge to be replaced, and then slide it out of the print cartridge cradle. If you are installing print cartridges for the first time, go to the next step.
  5. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and carefully remove the plastic tape. Hold the print cartridge so that the copper strips are on the bottom and facing toward the printer. Figure 2: Remove tape c00393708.gif 1 - Protective tape CAUTION: Do not touch the print cartridge ink nozzles or copper contacts. Touching these parts will result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections. Do not remove the copper strips. They are required electrical contacts.
  6. Slide the print cartridge at a slight upward angle into the cradle until the cartridge snaps into place. Figure 3: Install the print cartridge c00393709.gif
  7. Repeat steps 3-4 for the remaining print cartridge.
  8. Close the printer cover. The printer automatically prints a calibration page.

Print cartridge cradle is stuck ican't find where it is jammed

This might help . . . Mine finished printing one doc & then made a terrible noise & sent a message to my screen that "print cartridge cradle is stuck." When i opened door, i could see it was stuck off to the left side so left cartridge was obscured. I could not get it to budge, although i kept turning it off, gently pushing & turning it back on. Finally, i got my hand inside & determined that the little door to the left-side cartridge had popped open & was causing it to remain stuck. After some struggles (turn off printer first!) i was able to maneuver it around & close it tight. Now, all is well . . .
