First plug your iPod into your computer and open up iTunes, then select your iPod in the list to the right. Now click the "Restore" button located under the big picture of your iPod model. It will take a few minutes to do the firmware update, but after that, you should be good to go!
Hope this helps!
Thanks

Use itunes. It's made to work perfectly for the ipods. You can update the firmware and software using that. You can do a lot with itunes.
Change tags, info, and make playlists, update the whole ipod, reformat it so it's like new.

To reset your ipod hold down the sleep/wake button and the down button simultaneously. This will do a reboot of your unit. But we aware, this could wipe the system so be sure you have all your info backed up on itunes already
