Re: reinstall xp

You have to make certain that the system BIOS are set correctly to boot your CD drive first. If you BOOT sequence is set correctly any cd that is bootable should begin to boot first. So try I believe to depress F2 when you boot up your PC for the first time this takes you into the system setup. System BIOS, goto the boot menu and change the settings to make certain that your CD drive is the first to boot. When you reboot your PC make certaint the CD is in the drive before you reboot. In addition you will quickly see a sentence pop up asking you if you would like to begin setup, and if so, depress any key to boot from cd. This should start the process for you!

You cannot uninstall Windows Vista, but you can reinstall your previous operating system, which then replaces Windows Vista. To reinstall your old operating system, you must have the original installation disc. Back up your programs and files, insert the installation disc into your computer, and then reinstall the old operating system. To regain the hard disk space used by Windows Vista, reformat the disk during the reinstallation process. After reinstalling your previous operating system, reinstall your programs and files.

More information is here:

You may want to consider upgrading rather than downgrading.

Windows Installation Disc VS Windows Upgrade Disc -NOT THE SAME-

Having Trouble Booting To Your Windows Upgrade Disc?

...Upgrade discs aren't bootable discs. To repair a windows installation, you must use either a system repair disc or, better yet, a windows installation disc (genuine Retail/OEM discs are pretty much your only option to completely reinstall your windows operating system, unless you own a previous full installation disc of a previously released Windows version (such as XP or Vista), in which case you could install that windows operating system and then upgrade to a newer windows OS like windows 7. however if you ever need to reinstall windows 7, you would either need to reinstall the older windows OS, then upgrade to the newer one.

If that isn't clear, I'll sum it up....

Let's say you bought a computer, that computer had windows xp home edition. Maybe you wanted to upgrade from Windows XP/Windows Vista or Windows 7?
Well in order to switch from Windows XP/Vista to Windows 7, (or even from Windows 7 home premium- to windows7 Pro or Ultimate), then you must either:
A) Buy an upgrade disc and upgrade to the newer desired version.
B) Or, Buy a Retail Copy of the version you want to install. (keep in mind that a retail Windows 7 disc can be used to perform an upgrade rather than to competely wipe the hard disc and perform a clean install (delete partitions, reformat, and perform a new windows installation), if you so choose.

The bottom line is, you cannot Install a fresh clean copy of windows using an upgrade disc. OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and Retail Windows Operation System Installation Setup Discs are "Bootable Discs". Windows Upgrade Discs are NOT bootable. (unless one where to "modify that particular disc, which is not legal).

Windows XP Pro was reinstalled but failed the genuine windows because it was a volume license key which has been blocked. I did give my disc that dell had sent to me to the technician but he obviously did...

As you are unsure as to what to do then take it back to the techy. Reinstall from boot means altering the boot sequence so that your m/c will boot from the disk not the hard drive.

Depending on the BIOS this can be done either by pressing an F button (often F12) or changing the sequence within the BIOS.

I have a big problem....i have an acer aspire 6530g and i recently installed a bios update which screwed up my i went to reinstall windows xp pro and it wont reconigze any of my partitions..i hit...

You need to have your motherboard resetted. There is a jumper on the board that say reset. Move the jumper to that and turn it on for a few seconds. Then turn off and put the jumper back to the original spot.

Can I reinstall acer empowering technology for windows ex professional?

I checked with Acer support and they do n ot list the application in the apps lineup for XP Pro. They do however have a BIOS update that was released in March of this year. BIOS updates could make it possible to use other programs meant for other OS, but you would have to go to the support site, put in you model, specify your operating system and click on the tab over what is listed to find what you want. When you see the results pop up , there is drivers, applications, documents, BIOS, etc. Highlight what you are intersted in and read the info on it. I will tell you this, laptops are the easiest to update a BIOS because they have two power sources, that way if power fails, you have a battery backup keeping the update installing, But BIOS are very temperamental and if they go bad, you now have a foldable paperweight. Look around in there, you may something.

I need to re-install windows XP, I dont have the setup disc. Does Acer have a backed up copy of windows on a seperate partiton? If so, how can I access it?

Windows XP cannot be reinstalled unless you have your original ACER backup disks included with your purchase. Sorry, but if you don't have these, you'll need to purchase a copy of XP. BestBuy has the best prices...

Original boot discs

I'm afraid, you can't install XP home over XP Pro; it could be done the other way around. you'll have to  backup your important files then format your drive and restart from scratch.

if you have 2 partitionon in your HD e.g C: and D:
you can copy all your important files in the D:\ drive and just format and install XP home in the C:\ drive.

Same problem in HP dv6040ca

Firstly, the system configuration is normally in management menu or similair on your programmes menu. If not you will find that the bios menu in most laptops are basic and normally the main settings are hidden; you will need to speak to HP Technical for assistance in that. There is no reason to not be able to upgrade to XP Pro; but with an upgrade you would need to keep your original XP Home installation, otherwise you will need to completely install XP Pro firsly using the format option when you insert the Windows disc. As with most laptops all programmes and drivers are usually on a seperate partition on your hardrive, so be aware you are going to lose all this when formatting, so back up all files and settings. You may also have restore discs, if this being the case all programmes and operating system will be on them, so no need to worry about losing anything from your hardrive apart from your documents. Why do you need to dissable SATA?
