If it is a drive problem, then atleast the startup display should come. the laptop does not show loading of boot setup. if drive is failed then it should fail at the time of loading operating system or recognition of drives. If it is a drive problem, then atleast the startup display should come. the laptop does not show loading of boot setup. if drive is failed then it should fail at the time of loading operating system or recognition of drives.

The MOST likely senario that I've seen with similiar indications involved a hard drive that is slow to spin up to speed. Hence why multiple attempts, with the drive not coasting to a full stop between attempts, the drive finially makes it to operating speed and the system boots.

Try with the AC adaptor connected and plugged in. It may be a faulty battery or something more serious. Make sure the power light comes on when the charger is plugged in and switched on. In the evenit is still the same let me know.
the batteries eventually wear out and quit taking a charge. You can run the system without a battery with no ill effects. replacements are about $100 for a new battery
