Memory slots? I have a toshiba m105-S3041 and every website says it has 2 memory slots upgradeable to 4 gigs. So I buy two 1gig sticks, open the memory cover, and see only 1 stick of 512 RAM. I pull it out and dont see any other! Please help. Roger

I also have a Toshiba Satellite M105 S3041 laptop and there is one memory slot cover on the bottom of the laptop. When I opened mine, there was only one empty memory slot there! The Toshiba User Guide from the website says that the specs allow for up to a maximum 4 GB of RAM to be installed, or two 2GB sticks. I bought 2 x 2GB set of ram, and was only able to put one in. There is no other slot visible on the bottom of the laptop, but I know the 512 that came with the unit has to be somewhere. The question is, how do I access that slot so I can replace it with the other 2GB stick?

I found the solution to roger2 and my own problem. The secondary memory add-on slot is on the bottom of the unit, and can be accessed by removing one screw and the slot cover. The other, main memory slot is actually located underneath the keyboard. You should shut down the computer completely, unplug the power plug, and also remove the laptop battery before installing memory. Also, it may void your warranty if you mess around inside of your laptop, so please keep this in mind. You will need to take a very thin flat head screwdriver to gently pry up the panel above the F1-F12 keys. The panel is the entire plastic piece covering the speakers that has the power on, play, stop, ff, rw buttons on it. I used a very thin and flat hair clip that I found laying around to pry up the edges starting from the Pause/Break key moving left towards the ESC key. The screen lid has to be opened all the way for the piece to be completely removed. Once that is taken off, you will see two small screws holding the keyboard in place. Remove these two screws and gently pull out the thin ribbon cable connecting the keyboard to the laptop. The ribbon cable is located directly underneath the spacebar, so move slowly and carefully when removing the keyboard so as not to damage anything. In the center of the exposed area, there is a sort of rectangular metal cover with two screws holding it in place. The one that is about the same size as the slot cover on the other memory slot is the correct one. Remove the screws and open the metal cover. Underneath is the other memory slot. After you install the other memory stick, if you have 4 GB of total RAM, you should know that in 32-bit operating systems, Windows will only be able to use approximately 3.0-3.5GB of RAM. This is because of a limitation of 32 Bit Windows operating systems, and not because of the RAM itself. Only 64-bit operating systems will be able to use all 4 GB. On my system for example, I have the same Toshiba M105-S3041 laptop as you do, running Windows XP Home with two 2 GB sticks, and My Computer properties shows that I have 2.99 GB memory.

Yes, this was VERY helpful for this "never took apart my laptop before" user. And it was easy! Thanks so much, MochaCola!!!

The other memory slot is indeed beneath the keyboard. Follow the instructions posted above, but you do not need to remove the ribbon cable for the keyboard. Just fold the keyboard forward and proceed to the screws on the metal cover for the memory slot. Replace the memory under the keyboard and do the same on the back slot. Replace the screws on the keyboard and put the bezel back on and replace the cover on the back. You are then done and will have your added memory!!!

Toshiba says the 512 is not replacable & is mounted under the keyboard.

Make sure that they aren't stacked on top of each other, or that you have to remove the card they plug into in order to reach the other slot.

How can the bios be updated?

I recommend that you go to the Crucial website and perform the automatic scan function. This will identify your machine and tell you what upgrades are available, taking into account what memory the machine already has and the maximum that the chipset can support.

URL for the site is:

http://www.crucial.com/uk/?gclid=CKH544TNwKACFYKX2AodwRDGSw&cpe=pd_google_uk

or if that does not work just google 'crucial memory scan'

I need a guide in order to upgrade the memory of my Toshiba Satellite P205D-S7438. I'm not an expert at all but I already did so on another laptop (another brand too) and I know it is possible for me as...

This is real easy underneath you will see a large flap undo the screws hold it, and remove, you will see the RAM slotted into the socket, simply obtain the correct RAM for your laptop, and slot it in besides, or instead of, replace cover, and reboot, it will automatically be detected and used. If you have done it before then you are on your way to being an expert.. Oh we always say and "X" is an unknown quantity, and a "Spurt" is "Drip" under pressure...Xpert... < Joke.

I have a vgn-b3vp (pcg-5b1m) sony laptop, can i upgrade the memory if it has 512 of none-removable memory and only 1 bank.

Yes, you can use the 1 bank and get higher graded memory, another 512 in the 1 bank would make 1gig, you can probable get as much as 2 gig in the bank to make a total of 2.5 gigs by buying a 2 gig memory stick.

Where do I add memory to my Toshiba Satellite M105-S3041

There is a panel on the bottom of your laptop, with a Philips screw head andv the number "4" in a circle. Remove this screw, and the panel. Under this panel is the memory module(s), and they will take up to 1GB per module.

DDR2's only showing half installed RAM

IF THE SYSTEM SAYS YOU HAVE 1GB RAM THAN YOU HAVE 1 GIG OF RAM, EVEN THOU SOMEONE TOLD YOU YOU HAD 2-512MG=1GB.

HERE IS HOW I SEE WHAT YOU ARE SAYING YOU HAVE 2-DDR-2 1 GIG STICKS THAT MEAN IF 1 IS INSTALLED THAN YOU HAVE 1 GB AND IF YOU COULD GET 2 STICKS WORKING TOGETHER THAN YOU WOULD HAVE 2GB RAM.
1 CHIP SET = 1GB RAM
2 CHIP SET = 2GB RAM

YOU MOTHERBOARD MAY NOT ALLOW THAT MUCH RAM, OR WHAT I MEAN THE BIOS MAKE UP THE AMOUNT OF RAM.

TO RULE OUT ANY BAD CHIP SETS OR GOOD RAM OR BAD RAM.

TAKE THE PEACE OF RAM THAT IS WORKING OUT AND REPLACE IT WITH THE OTHER PEACE AND SEE IF IT WILL RUN.
IF IT WORKS THAN LEAVE THAT ONE IN PLACE AND INSTALL THE SECOND PEACE IN THE SECOND SLOT.
IF BOTH CHIP SET ARE GOOD THAN BOTH SHOULD WORK OKAY TOGETHER.
IF THERE IS A PROBLEM, IT MAYBE SOME DUST IN THE MEMORY LOTS
OR THE SLOT MAYBE DAMAGED.
OR
THE CHIP DESIGN LAYOUT MAYBE THE OPPOSITE SIDE, THIS MAY MEANS THE CHIPS MAY FACE EACH OTHER, OR FACE OUTWARD FROM EACH OTHER.

chek your laptop first if it can accept the 1gig memory. if so then ask the supplier of your 2 pcs 512 memory to replace with 1 pc. 1gig memory. and also ask assistance to replace it.

Toshiba sattelite

The problem must be the amount of total memory. Maybe the board supports only 1 gig. Chek the manual.
