If a lens cleaner works for you then great problem solved but in the hundreds of PS2 consoles I've serviced the disc reading error is the most frequent fault I've come across. Of course in the early days replacing the laser unit was the easiest albeit not the cheapest option as they were about £50 each. and the laser models varied depending which version of Ps2 you have. Trouble is the lasers power drops this could be from over use but I've seen this on a two day old machine. There are many instructions on the web showing you how to adjust the power or I should say increasing the power of the laser enabling the Ps2 to read the discs once more. This does mean the Ps2 needs to be dismantled carefully and they do vary from model to model. Just look for the version on the back SCPH xxxxx Once disassembled and with the disc drive removed one of the two potentiometers underneath the laser lens is given an eighth of a turn clockwise to increase the power output of the laser fixing the disc read problem. Having the correct measuring equipment (oscilloscope) is highly recommended but I have never needed to use one although it is more accurate to do so.

When using the controller plugged into the first controller slot, I am unable to control the analog stick on that controller. AT first, I thought it was just the controller. But since then I have bought 2 NEW controllers and used them both with the same outcome. Any idea on how I can fix this without having to buy a new system?
