Re: Frigidaire Microwave

Dead? You mean no power, no lights, no beeps, nothing?

It's most likely a blown thermostat / thermal cutout on the magentron, based on your info.

But if you can post the model number I may be able to steer you better.

More generic info:

A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the thermostat to open. When it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or fuse holder.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

Frigidaire microwave not heating over the range

Try to cook something simple such as microwave popcorn. If the unit does not light up or turn on, check the outlet with another appliance to make sure the outlet is functioning correctly.

Check the fuses or circuit breakers in you house. If the outlet does not work after testing it with another appliance, try to plug the microwave in a different outlet.

Check the hinges and door hooks to make sure the door is closing properly. Look to see whether a small piece of food is clinging to the door, preventing it from closing all the way. Check the release mechanism and the rotating plate to make sure they can move freely as well.

Plug in the microwave and start it a the bag of microwave popcorn inside. If the lights go on but it is not producing heat, listen and try to hear whether the unit sounds the way it usually does. If it does not, there might be problems with the circuit board. This will need to be repaired by a certified Frigidaire professional.

Check the display that shows the time and power. If the display is flickering but it does not alter the operation of the microwave, it is not a problem. If, however, the lights flicker and your food is not heating, there may be a problem in the microwave cabinet.

Listen for buzzing sounds. If there is a buzzing sound and no heat is being produced, you may have to get a new magnetron, power diode, or high-voltage capacitor. These can be purchased from a Frigidaire retailer.

Look at the handle on the door. The most common complaint about all models of the Frigidaire microwave, according to, was cracked or broken door handles. Frigidaire will replace faulty handles while the oven is under warranty. In many cases, they will replace the handle even after the warranty expires for a "reasonable" amount of time.

Is there a reset button on frigidaire microwaves. have already checked the circuit breakers but still not working

nope sure isnt, if it doesnt turn on you may have just blown either the load in fuse or the high voltage fuse down the bottom, remove the cover should be a couple screws round the outside and check fuses if you know how (MAKE SURE ITS UNPLUGGED FROM THE POWER FIRST) (NEVER START THE MICROWAVE WITHOUT THE METAL COVER ON AS THIS ACTS AS A RADIATION SHIELD)

The microwave starts by itself and does all different things.

the power triac that is the main power controller for power to the microwave is starting to leak from the gate terminal and is firing the triac, just as if you pushed the start button

My fridgidaire "FMV157GB" microwave has no power. is there a breaker?

HI, this is an unfortunate power board failuer. there has been a major burn out within the capacitor set and a diode as well. you will need to replace the power supply board in this unit asap if possible.

Frigidaire Micro made an odd noise and now it does not work!

Probably due to a loose screw or clip connection where the wires connect to the outlet's terminals.

These must be tight, especially for high-current loads like microwave ovens.

Loose connections can lead to serious or dangerous overheating.

I would say the reason the microwave made it blow was that the microwave's outlet is probably fed by (daisy-chained with) the outlet that blew.

If so, this is not really a good idea.

A high-current load (microwave, freezer, fridge, etc.) should ideally be on its own breaker / fuse with no other items on the same power line.
