Middle arm of dishwasher not spinning

What culd be preventing the middle arm of our dishwasher from spinning?  Water is coming out of the arm but it is not spinning and, as a result, the dishes on the upper rack are not clean.  The lower and upper arms are spinning.

Same problem, have taken it off and cleaned, sometimes it has had large pieces of food or pumpkin seeds etc. obstructing it due to kids loading. Even now it turns sporadically or not at all with water spraying downwards. I hate this thing now and it worked great for the first couple of months!

Middle arm of my GE Profile is not turning. We tried to clean it.

I have the same issue with the middle arm not spinning. Water comes out of the holes and it spins freely by hand. The bottom and top spray arms work fine. I have removed the arm and checked for any obstruction that would maybe keep the water from flowing at full force but nothing wrong. Middle arm uses the same water supply supply tube as the upper arm which works. Loved my first Profile but this one is about 15 months old and the problem just started randomly about 6 weeks ago.

I do have the same problem, and have tried the clr, tried taking the middle arm off and checking for clogs, tried running the machine without the middle sprayer and water does seem to be coming out of the feeder tube, tried more clr . . . . Very frustrating. How can the upper arm do fine and the middle one not move, since both are fed by the same supply line??
    Any more suggestions? Thanks all!

"Crud" in the arm that can only be removed with a needle or other small pointy object has proven to be the only solution to this problem. When the middle arm is working properly, the machine does a great job. But, when it's clogeed, it's terrible. Hope htey fix it withthe next model!

I'm the one that reported the same problem in November as "Guest". I fixed mine finally. I removed the middle arm again and noticed that the holes that spray a jet ot water causing the arm to turn aren't the ones on top. On the bottom of the arm there's a small hole at each end. I looked and one of the holes had a small piece of crud in it. I had to use the tip of an ice pick to dislodge it back into the arm. I then ran water into the arm several times hoping to get the item completely removed. I never did see anything come out but I then ran water through the arm holding it so the water could run out one end. The piece didn't show up in the hole again so I tried washing it to the other end. It still didn't show up so I guess it must have washed out the first time. It's been 3 or 4 weeks now and the arm is still functioning perfectly. Hard to believe that one little piece of trash can cause so much irritation. Good luck on this being the problem for others.

There could be a buildup of minerals that is affecting the arm, or a particle of sand or other debris.
start by looking for a whitish buildup on other parts of the interior. if so, you can get some phosphoric acid based cleaner, like shower power or clr, or shower mist from smart and final. (the latter is cheaper)
run a small amount of that with the washer empty. try a few runs. it may be really built up.
alternately, if all looks clean and the are swings with great ease, then the pump is not working correctly and there is not enough pressure. check for debris in the drain area at the bottom.
pumps usually run or they don't, so i would suspect a clog somewhere before i would think the pump is going or has gone bad.
recap. look for calcium deposits and inspect for clogs. clear calcium with chems listed above.
caution caution caution: phosphoric acid based cleaners will remove deposits in the shower on glass, tile etc. make sure the list of precautions does not include anything that is on the inside of your dishwasher.
and do not get it onto your bare hands. especially if you have a cut. its not particularly dangerous or they would not sell it, but if it gets into a cut, like around a fingernail, it can cause serious problems in some instances. aside from that, its the best cleaner you will likely find for the problem.
if you do have build up, you might have excessively hard water depending on how old the unit is. if you put in a softener and its salt based, do not drink that water. get a water filter for drinking and cooking water.
good luck

Don in FLA -- I think you've hit the nail on the head. I (once again) removed the middle arm and looked at the underside of it and indeed found "crud" plugging the small holes that point downwards. Turned out to be tiny bits of a broken plate. Once I maneuvered them out, the arm seems to be rotating much better, and with greater upward force of spray. Thank you!

I have a GE profile dishwasher PDW828 and was experiencing that the upper tray cup holder was not cleaning properly. The dishwasher has three wash impellers and noticed that the middle impeller under the upper tray was not moving during the wash/rinse cycles. After removing the impeller blade, I found three small pieces of plastic and a fish bone in the impeller blade. After I flushed out the impeller repeatedly with water and then reinstalled, the dishwasher is back to normal operation.
It appears any debris which gets trapped in the impeller blade will prevent it from spinning properly or even at all.

Thank you! My dishes, especially those on the top, were not getting cleaned. It ended up being a little piece of paper off the bottom of a new cup that was clogging the holes. Easy fix!

Had the same issue with the middle arm: not spinning. I followed the suggestions here (and after watching a GE video on how to remove the top basket) and found some unidentifiable crud blocking the jets that spin the arm, also found a bit of stiff clear plastic clogging the main inlet to the spray arm. Thanks everyone for the tip!

Frigidaire Model FDB780RCB0 I am getting water in the machine but it seems the arms are not turning what can I do to get that fixed?

The pump in the dishwasher is supposed to provide enough water pressure to turn the spray arms and make them rotate. The pump is faulty and not giving enough pressure or the arms are stuck.
Try spinning the arms, if they rotate smoothly, you will need to replace the pump.

LG LDF6810ST dishwasher won't clean and spin arms properly

Check for a worn bushing washer on the lower arm. Also, make sure the arms are clean inside - they are propelled by reaction from the water jets spraying out, and clogs will prevent proper water flow through the jet orifices. Sometimes food debris will get through the pump and cause this problem. The diverter valve may also have trash inside clogging it and keeping from seating properly - this could account for both low pressure at the spray arm and water coming out of the lower rack when it should not.

LDF7932ST LG dishwasher top and bottom arms not turning. Diagnostic test mode "power+spray+ rinse" does not work.

I put a new lower spray arm and very little water comes out of it. There is quite a bit of water that comes out of the middle and top. The top does not spin but has quite a bit of water and the middle spins really good.

Middle wash arm not rotating on a GDL5800L00. Water comes out of holes but does not turn. Arm spins free

Check the spin spindle at the pivoying point. Clean it. The spinning takes place through the water pressure only. or contact service center to get a new part.

The arms do not spin and no water is going through them

Switch to a brand name powder detergent like Electrosol or Cascade. Never use ultracheap, generic DW detergent powder in any dishwasher. Run a load with dirty dishes and see the results are.

If cleaning results remain poor open the sump area by removing the lower spray arm and the filter assembly. Remove all debris in and around the sump area. Inspect the impeller down there to make sure it is not broken and that it spins freely. Clean the filter well in the sink. Reassemble. Also, check all spray arm holes for blockage.
Run a load of dishes and check cleaning results. If problems continue, you almost certainly have a failing wash motor and replacement is your next step.

GE GLD5800L Middle Spray Arm is Not Spinning

The middle arm may be missing an O-ring at the back of the dishwasher.

Mar 23, 2009 | GE GLD5800L Dishwasher

the spinning of the arms is created by the force of the water shooting out of the holes. your top arm may have debris build up in it that prevents proper water flow. u can also remove the arm and see it there is build up on the contact point were it rotates. clean it if its dirty. "dishwasher magic" is good for cleaning mineral build up in your system. also, make sure your not putting dishes on the top rack that are too tall and prevent the blade from rotating

Water not going through spray arms

1.does motor run? no. replace motor. door and leave the bottom rack inside dw.spin the spray arm underneath the bottom rack by hand. it should spin freely without binding. if it doesnt spin freely take out the bottom rack and try again. if it does spin freely then your bottom rack is laying on your sprayarm preventing it from rotating. could also not be getting enough water into your dw.
