Question about Samsung SyncMaster 204B 20.1" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Flickering, sparkeling, ghosting, you name it. Related to electricity in house?

I had no problems with this monitor for over a year. I recently moved and within a few weeks the image suddenly developed purplish vertical lines (not all the way from top to bottom though), dimmed colors, extreme ghosting, and a loss of sharpness. I sent the monitor back to samsung and they sent me a new one. Within hours of starting to use the second one it started flickering on and off from time to time. It also had some pixels that turned differnt colors which made it look like the screen was sparkeling. It would do these two things on and off, and sometimes worked fine. I decided to unplug it though out of fear that something permanent might happen to it like the first one. My best guess is that the problem has something to do with the electricity in the house. It is old and the electrical outlets have not been updated. They don't even have grounds. Please let me know what the problems could be realted to. Thanks!

I just solved the problem the other day. I found the solution on another forum. I went into my graphics card settings and checked off "reduce dvi frequency on high resolution displays" and that completely ended the flickering. That said, this monitor is obviously a finicky one and if your card didn't have that setting then i suppose you would have to send it back. I have a Radeon 9600.

When I boot up my screen starts flickering, very slowly at first and then speeding up until it returns to normal. Sometimes I have to disconnect the electricity to make this happen. Screen sometimes remains totally black

No, it is not the electricity in your house, I had the same problem. Send it back to Samsung and get a new one. I have had to send my monitor back 4 times!

Monitor Flicker

Hello, my name is Chris. This is a really simple fix. Please make sure that your VGA card (video card) is pushed in on the motherboard. Even if it's a PCI Video Card. Still check. And make sure it is screwed in as well. If it's none of the above, than your motherboard is fried.

It sounds as if you have "ghosting". Has your monitor been moved recently? Do you have any electrical cords running over or on the monitor cable? have you changed the video cable to see if it still does it? I have seen this issue be solved by using a good quality VGA cable, cheap ones usually ghost.

Let me know =)
