Water leaking over carafe - Cuisinart DGB-550BK

My coffee pot was leaking over the carafe and onto the warmer. I found that this issue was caused by the carafe lid. The lid was not allowing coffee to flow into the pot fast enough. I removed the inner mechanism from the carafe lid (it pops off really easily) and just sit the lid on top of the pot while brewing, and no more leaks! After brewing, I put the mechanism back onto the lid and twist lid onto the pot.

If you haven't used a replacement carafe, then it is probably a clog in the drip orifice, at the bottom of the basket. Note: don't put hot water in your coffee maker as it will perk faster and cause an overflow. Only use cold water. If you have replaced the carafe then it is probably the wrong size.

Are you sure 8 cups of water is a lot to LOOSE it has to be somewhere i am used to loosing 1/2 cup in the grounds if i make 8 or more cups i have 2 of these coffe makers one in each house the only times i ever loose more is when the filter isnt properly seated and it flows around it and makes a major mess get your coffee maker into a good light and pour water into the filter(coffee maker off) with the carafe out fill it about 1/2 way no water should leak thru then slip the carafe into place the filter should empty if the water flowed when the carafe was out your filter basket and holder arent seated or the valve on the bottom of the holder is clogged and/or held open

If you look where the reservior fits into the base, specifically where the water goes in, there is a rubber seal. It's held in by a circulary plastic piece and 3 screws. I took it apart there to see if something was amiss and decided after looking at it some that they had put the seal in upside down. So I put it back together with the lip of the seal facing up instead of down and I have not had a single drop of water leak from the reservior again. Now if I can get the thermos pot that came with it to stop leaking every time I pour a cup I will be a happy camper.

If you are noticing the water that is leaking at the base, I was having the same problem. If you can specifically see that the leak is coming from between the basket and carafe - then you may have a different problem. My problem appears to be that the heating element is shot - it leaks when you start the brewing cycle. I found this out by taking off the bottom and raising up the coffee maker and puting it on a mirror to view what was going on. As soon as the brewing starts and the system is under pressure, water starts forming on the metal tubing part of the heating element. I suppose it's possible that water is leaking down from the tubes, but it looks like it is getting forced out of the metal, so there must be small holes, caused by corrosion. I will check further but I can't find a replacement heating element online so I may have to purchase a new coffee maker.

If water is leaking from the very bottom of the machine, your unit is broke and you need to call Cuisinart. If it is just overflowing the caraffe/basket:
The two most common reasons for overflow or underflow have to do with the carafe lid and the filter basket - they key to smooth flow with this coffee maker is making sure the filter basket and carafe lid are making the proper contact with each other so that the center knob on the carafe lid pushes slightly up on the filter basket spring. Make sure the carafe lid is completely closed. Make sure the filter basket is pushed all the way down. Make sure you are not using the gold tone filter and a paper filter at the same time. For some reason, I get better results when the handle of the carafe is resting against the right side wall. If everything is in place, I would suspect a problem with either the filter basket being clogged or some problem with the carafe lid - call Cuisinart as they should be able to order these parts for you.

First off, do not submerge the carafe in cold water when it is hot. The water will rush past the seals. This solution involves heating the carafe. Be careful to avoid steam burns
1. Place the carafe on a stove top. 2. Slowly heat the carafe. (make sure you are wearing oven mitts -- avoid steam burns) 3. As the carafe heats the water inside steam will escape the area where the seal allowed the water to get in there in the first place. Steam should appear very quickly, If it does not stop the process right away! Pressure can build up and cause the Carafe to explode! 4. Check the carafe from time to time taking care to avoid steam burns. 5. Once the water has been steamed away, remove the carafe from the stove and allow it to cool slowly. DO NOT place the carafe in water or on a very cold surface until it has cooled. The rapid cooling of the left over steam will cause the carafe to collapse on itself if it is placed in cold water while it is still hot from this procedure.

I have the same problem, but have not been able to find a new carafe, so far.

I just had good luck pulling the grinder bottom piece forward while pulling directly up on the blade mechanism. Hope this helps.

Our Cuisinart grind and brew was leaving a puddle under it after making a pot of coffee. I called Cuisinart this week and it turns out the handle of the carafe has to be lined up in the middle of the opening for the carafe. It will be under the word Cuisinart, in the middle.

We have now made several pots with NO residual puddle of water or coffee. It also seems to be making the pots quicker.

Before trying this I had run 2 pots of water with 1/2 cup white vinegar in it also. But it still puddled until we lined up the carafe as noted above.
