There are two small screws at the end of the brush roll on some of these. There is a bearing block recessed into the housing at a slight angle to help tension the belt, so it comes out at an angle as well. It often fills with grit and you must clean the grit out carefully without damaging the blocks or housing. Sometimes WD 40 helps is the area has any rust build up. Then work a large screwdriver under one end the brush for leverage being CAREFUL not to damage the brush housing. Do not soak with WD40 as it will also get into the brush roll bearings
