If you have windows vista and it comes up with the "no scan options" don't press the button on the printer, go to "start" then "accessories" then "paint". This will open up the windows paint program. Go to "File" then click on "From scanner or printer". It will then scan the document, no more problems! Happy scanning

HP Support:
Solution Center is used for printer communication regarding scanning from the printer itself, if you are experiencing this issue there is a problem with communication between the printer driver and HP software. A re-install is required. I suggest running a file uninstall_L2.bat in util/ccc/ on the hp software disk. alternatively run uninstall_L3 if you are on a non-hp computer (reason being the L3 uninstall will remove all hp registry keys) and re-installing after completing that uninstall.

For XP only.
It wouldn't scan out of the box. The HP Scan Diagnostic Utility show no problems (wrong). After 5 hours of playing I discovered that there was a conflict with another HP printer (Photosmart 8700) on my system. I dumped the 8700 software and the 5610 then would enter the scan mode but wouldn't talk to the PC. I then dumped the entire 5610 software and reloaded it but this time with the Express, not the Full. All systems now function. Go figure!

I actually had the same "no scan option" message. Then I downloaded the HP Scan Diagnostic Utility and it fixed my registry. It even worked on Windows Vista. Problem fixed for me, good luck.

At least I think I can solve it, I own an HP product so perhaps it might now work on other Operating Systems but you can give it a shot. I talked via a chat system with a tech from HP and she gave me a link that would re-install all my icons and put me back in business. The folder that downloaded to me was AID_CDB_Full_Non-Network_enu.exe. You might go to their site and ask if it would work on other brands of PC's. I used http:www.HP.com/support chat. I would think they could at least answer as to whether it would work on other brands. I'm up and running Whoo Hoo !

none of these are correct go to hp solution center and click on the 'settings' button at the bottom on the left side then go to 'scan settings and preferences" then to "scan to setup" then you will see two white squares highlight on the left side and click add then click ok or apply and that should fix your problem

I suggest going outside Windows for the solution. A lot of you guys seem to be trying to trigger a scan event from pressing the button on the printer, which is forcing the driver to interact directly with Windows. Usually this is a bad idea.

Try using an app like Picasa. Google's pretty good at workign around windows driver flaws. I was having the same error "No Scan Options" for MONTHS, tried scanning through Picasa and as soon as I clicked "Scan", the printer lit up the "Scan" button and started scanning immediately.

Go Figure, but try it. It works.

Guys....Had the same problem and this is how I fixed it.

Connect your 5610 printer to your computer.

Click: Start....Programs...Accessories...Scanner and Camera Operator.

Follow the instructions to scan your items.

HP ALL-IN-ONE 5610 give message on printer panel "No scan option"& "please refer document............"

Comment by deesupp, posted on Mar 03, 2008

I have the same problem. My scanner used to work and then one day I noticed it didn't work anymore and says this same message ("no scan options - refer to device documentation to troubleshoot". I'm not sure if it all started when I added Microsoft Excel or upgraded to Windows XP (I can't remember). I feel like this printer is a waste now and feel like getting a new one. It faxes and prints fine (although it runs out of ink constantly).

I'm using my officejet 5610 on my XP operating system and I am getting the same problem. I press the scan button and it just says for me to refer to the manual and that I have no scan options. Please help!

Same problem here....5610xi all in one..... what worked for me for a while but now no longer works is uninstalling the driver....

Right-Click on My Computer and select Manage

Double click on Device Manager under System Tools.

Double click on Universal Serial Bus controllers.

Find Officejet 5600 and right click on it and select Uninstall.

Then unplug the appropriate USB cable that connects the HP to the Computer. Wait a moment and plug it back it. The computer will re-install it automatically. And supposedly you should be back in business. NOTE: This worked for me the first dozen times (yes I said dozen, the scan failed many many times) and now what do you know it doesn't work anymore.

my printer HP 5610 is conected by means or usb port to my notebook and works fine for printing but when i press scan it says No scan options "refer to device documentation to troubleshoot.

Comment by bubba123, posted on Nov 30, 2007

I used this machine for a long time on 2000 and XP.

Now I have Vista and the scan document-to-pdf feature no longer works - PDF was not presented as a save option.

I did the web chat with HP and the people there were not helpful. I called HP support and of course they wanted to charge for "out of warranty support" even though I am looking for software/driver support - not warranty support on my hardware.

Can someone recommend a nice non-HP alternative that will print/copy/scan/fax and can create a multi-page PDF when scanning? I use this feature all the time for my expense reports.

I Have The same Problem!!! Qote Every Thing

Comment by beefox, posted on Nov 06, 2007

I am having exact same problem. I have a new printer and just installed the software for the first time. I got the "no scan options" message (with a totally exasperating "refer to the manual for troubleshooting suggestions" when there is no mention of this issue in the manual) and so uninstalled and reinstalled my software as the manual says this should take care of most basic problems. (Also disconnected the USB port before re-installing, and reconnected it at the appropriate time, as they say to.)

I had my hp 5610 on my laptop through USB, i unplugged it and plugged it into another laptop. I plugged it back into the first laptop and now it wont respond at all.

I have the same "no scan options". Iv'e called HP tech support, but they want $34.00 to help. What a Rip-off!. Iv'e reinstalled the software several times, even 3 others that I downloaded online. I went on HP's support page and followed the instructions for that problem, http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00503569&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=441127&dlc=en&lang=en, which basically leads to uninstal and reinstall the software. Still no fix. Very frustrating. This is my second HP with stupid software problems. I'll never buy HP again, especially because of their costly support structure.
