MSC MODE AND MTP MODE

I've had my mp3 player for a couple of months now and it just stopped working. Everything else on the mp3 works except for the uploading of music. When I plug in the usb and the player is in mtp mode it connect to the computer for 3 seconds then shuts off and restarts itself. When i do the same and it is in msc mode it stasys connected and when i upload music on it they go on. but when i try to play the tracks a note comes up saying bad track for every sond.....plz help

These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3 Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues - they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes, flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.

Reset the Sansa Player first. On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer. Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced.
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/DriverDownload/driverList.asp
If these fail, then:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version).
You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE shutting down your computer.

My Red Sansa Clip 4GB will not show on any computer i plug it into, It only charges and i have tried the auto detect, mtp, and msc settings. Any Suggestions?

Well i try to sync music to it and it stops on the first song and take forever to sync. the first song stays at 100% but does not go on to the next song at all


Just to be clear,most players require no special drivers. MSC mode will work out of the box with just about any MP3 player and any OS (W*ndows Linux). MTP mode will work as long as you have WMP 10 or 11 installed. Firstly, I will try to explain MSC mode and MTP mode and what they mean. MSC stands for Mass Storage Class. When your player is in this mode, the computer will see it the same way it would see a Thumb drive or flash drive, as a removable disk. It will assign the first available drive letter to your device, as well as one for the memory card (if it uses one and it is installed). This is probably the more popular of the 2 modes, and is a more "open source" type of standard. Most computers detect the player in this mode without a problem very well and right away.
MTP stands for Media Transfer Protocol. It is a Microsoft standard and is Microsoft's solution to connecting MP3 players and cameras to a w*ndow based Computer. MTP mode must be used in order to transfer ANY Digital Rights Management (DRM) protected content. MP3's downloaded form services like Rhapsody and Napster will only function in this MTP mode.
Most good MP3 players will have both of these modes at the users options.
Although not all do, so it is a good idea to check yours for these settings if you are having connection problems
NOTE: Any songs added to your player in MSC mode will not be available in MTP mode and vise-a-versa. In other words You can't see the files added in the other mode and you can not play them. My MP3 stopped working. It doesn't need to be

Change MP3 from USB to MSC mode


Usb mode is in settings push center button choose between msc or mtp.... MSC will allow you to see the expansion card mtp won't.....MTP shows you your music folder in the media folder thats where you put your music plus expansion.....If no usb mode the player is manufactored to be in msc mode make sure your usb 2.0 driver is installed

Hi,
1. Make sure you Windows Media Player 11 (Goto Help --> About WMP --> v??) 2. If you do not have it, install it from this location: http://www.microsoft.com/mediaplayer  3. Change the Mode on Device: Go into Menu --> Settings --> USB Mode:Auto Detect/MTP/MSC  4. Select MSC and it should work. If it does not try Powercycling your device (turn it off and then turn it on). 5. Try other modes as well.

Mp3 player problem


I had this same problem.
Go to Setup on the Coby MP3 player.
Go to USB mode
Change to MSC mode if on MTP mode
Change to MTP mode if on MSC Mode.

Well, is it in MTP mode or MSC mode (menu > settings > USB)?

If it's in MTP mode, Windows Media Player should recognize it.

If it's in MSC mode, it acts like a USB thumb drive.

You should be able to add music in either mode, but I've found MSC mode simply doesn't work, though it once seemed to. Also, the Sansa m230 will not work with USB 1.1, only 2.0. Next time, I'm getting something Rockbox runs on!

Main load failed error


The difference is that when you have your device on MTP mode, its recognize as a Portable device...You cant modify the settings on MTP mode...When its on MSC mode, its recognize as a disk drive...thats when you can modify the drive files..to change the mode..go to menu, settings, USB mode and there you should find the MSC and MTP mode..Hope that helps
