This may have more to do with your Facebook account than with your MacBook itself. Try signing into Facebook from another computer using your user name and password. If your account is OK, change your password. Go back to your macBook and log in with your news password. I have the problem with my Ipad sometimes. Often Facebook will send you a message apologizing for problems logging in. Try logging in from that message.
Gtalk is only available on windows, so it cannot be installed on a macbook air. Although, you can install the gtalk plugin and chat while logged into gmail from with the browser on your mac. http://www.google.com/talk/
