Question about Brother MFC-J825DW Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer, Copy/Fax/Print/Scan

Open Question

Brother MFC-J825DW has error message "Error 76: Unable to Clean"

Error Message "Error 76: Unable to Clean". This is what has been done so far: Checked the paper path and it is clear. I went into Maintenance mode and set Purge to 0 and also tried setting Flush to 0 but the error message persists. Scrolling through Maintenance Mode it does show "Machine Err_1:76", but I am not sure how or if it can be cleared from maintenance mode or not. Also, when the machine is attempting to clean, the print head moves rather violently and slams the left and right side of the machine. This is not normal.

SOURCE: Brother MFC 210C Machine error 41

Error 41 refers to the printheads which is a common problem with Brother machines. The printheads will need to be replaced. On some machines, Brother has extended the warranty to cover printheads because of the excessive failure rate. Contact Brother to see if you qualify and they may send you new printheads along with easy instructions to replace them. Also please rate this solution with a fixya rating. Thanks!

SOURCE: brother mfc-490cw maintenance mode

Is it a new Ink Cart? If not they have a bad tendency to dry out very quickly (even when not used) Some printers will use a combination of all their ink to create black when it runs low. Usually the first color to dry out is the Magenta. I would start by running a cleaning cycle 5-6 times and hope it can pull some ink through the ink head. Otherwise, go get a new cartridge and try it again. Ink Jets are a pain and the Carts are quite expensive, that why the machines price point is so low.

One other thought, you might try a Q-tip very lightly soaked in alcohol and gently rub it on the bottom of the Magenta Cartridge, it will remove any dried out in on the bottom of the cartridge and might make it work. But, WARNING....to much alcohol is a BAD thing and will cause a terrible mess with ink everywhere and could possible cause printer problems.

Good Luck.

Clean unable 46

This is very common on Brother MFCs - they self clean excessively and when they've done a set number of self-cleans, they refuse to print and give the error message you quote.

There is a work around - you can reset the self-clean counter - but this carries a small risk the waste ink from cleaning that is normally stored insde the machine in a tank/sponge MAY leak out. I've done the work around on my Brother MFC and, so far, no leakage so if I were you I'd take a punt.
Just Google "brother mfc unable to clean" and somewhere in the results will be how to reset the counter - it's all done from the keyboard so no tools required.

Unable to clean message in brother dcp-115c aio

I saw on this site codes for another MFC to clear memory and reset the cleaning unit count code to zero. It worked on two of my brother mfc 820cw units. The third mfc 5840cn had unable to print error message 46- nothing at Brother. they want you to take everything to a repair shop.they don't help at all. Then the error went to 4F when I tried toclear the memory.As Iunderstand that message- it means I have to replace the printer head. Have no clue where or what it is. But I can read a manual as well as anyone and follow directions to fix it! Can't be worse than it is now! Good luck

Brother mfc-215c unable to clean?

@artkoy:

There is no Error 10 within the maintenance of the printer!
An error starting with 10 (and two more digits) belongs to the communication device (fax).

Plz check again what two digit error you have and post again.

@peter:

you need a new waist ink absorber. plz check the forum for unable to clean or error 46. Its explained many times.
