I've had this problem quite a few times; here are some potential issues: (1) If it is any color disk but the standard shiny silver (i.e. purple, blue) it will not play. it will do about one or two spins and be done. (2) When was the last time you cleaned it? Take out the screws. It's been a while for me but I believe they are under the pads for laying them down. Get some canned air (1 = $4 or $5 for a good one), hold it straight up and clean it. PLEASE MAKE SURE IT'S UNPLUGGED BEFORE DOING THIS. (3) 75% of my problem was that I had the PS2 laying down so the disk goes in horizontally. Set it up and try that way if it's not already. (4) Check your disk and if it's really scratched then that could be another problem. *(5) Wall Plug. If you have more than 2 appliances plugged into the wall outlet then you could be depriving the unit the power it needs to operate properly. Consider an extension cord or moving it to another outlet.
