SOURCE: need carb setting wont idle runs in spurts

There is usually a sticker with a craftsman Model Number on it, often "358.Something". That number can be used to find an IPL and if you are lucky an OM here: Sears PartsDirect Start at 1.5 CCW from lightly seated then tune for performance like this:
Carburetor Adjustment by
CW is leaner; to lean will destroy the saw. If over tightened closed (CW) the adjustment screw faces are easily marred; marred adjustments are difficult to impossible to set properly.
Clean the air filter; adjusting with a dirty filter can cause a run lean condition once cleaned and the saw run.

There are 2 wav (sound - idle & full – may not be highlighted) files that I find most helpful, I think you will too. HTH

Got carby off how do clean jets properly??

Very carefully, all your parts need to be taken care of, the honda shop doesn't sell complete kits anymore, they sell the parts you need, only, so you need to know what you need. The jets have tiny o rings on them that only come with carb parts, so protect them, the jets need to be wired out with a guitar string, .009, you can get one from a music store from the garbage can, unless you play. Clean them out so that you can blow through them, make sure there is no rocks in there, no turpentine, no gunk, soak them in carb cleaner, then reassemble, There is no adj on them, they are fixed. If they don't work you need a different jet. I bought a kit from dynaflow, adj jet kit for my bike, the factory set jet didn't do diddly, but the dynaflow worked great, Hope this helps.

My john deere 1600 weed trimmer starts fine cold, then runs on high speed for several minutes then dies .Then will not start.I cleaned spark plug, checked proper oil/fuel mix, cleaned air filter,tightened...

Your fuel low fuel high adj on carb arent set right. one is for idle and low running while other is for high rev. Getting these set just right is very tricky and takes some time doing it to become good,Im starting you off on a crash course,Im not gauranteeing anything but here it goes. LOcate the two fuel adj. screws on carb,if they have plastic caps on top remove them with needle nose pliers so the screws themselves are exposed. Next,I want you to take a screw driver and turn both in all the way till they stop. Now take and turn each one out counter clockwise three full revolutions. Now start it to see if theres any improvement. (Note: further adj. may be required you may have to consult an expert to have it be done for you if you cant get it).

Need to know how to set up carb on 1985 johnson outboard. front adj on the carb got moved looking for starting point to get me close to running.

try disconnecting the throttle cable, loosen carb linkages, assure that both carbs are FULL closed....tighten linkage - and cable ...check for FULL open and close with the throttle....this will be your starting point, advise to get a service manual for your outboard model to correctly adjust the carbs for max performance....GL hope this helps..
