Question about Computers & Internet
I have an Cerwin Vega LW-12 sub that after years of great service started to "flutter" when hitting the higher frequency in its range. It sounded as if the speaker was blown. I tried 2 other woofer speakers and the same thing would happen. I took it to an "authorized" CV repair shop and they found the PS caps were swollen and replace them. I took the unit home and hooked it up but now it has this God awful hum. Even when no music is playing. The shop invoice reads they replaced the caps with higher rated ones that are supposed to be better. Can these new caps be causing the hum or is there something like a cold solder or ground loop issue that came about due to the repair work?

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: Auto Sub woofer
There are several causes of distortion in an audio setup.
1) Speaker is unable to handle the frequency that it's being fed
2) The volume is too high for the speaker to handle
3) The amp can't provide enough power to drive the speaker adequately.
Either way distortion is BAD & best to be avoided unless you want an excuse to buy a new set of speakers :P

I bought my VE-28s and it did exactly that crackled, cerwin replaced part in amp but few months later problem persisted. they then replaced entire amp assembly and its been fine. i really push it to and its been fine. to test it, unplug the connection from amp/ reciever and see if it persists. if so its the sub, if not its the amp/ reciever. dont dump it, these subs really crank and can put out some deep loud bass.
