Question about Panasonic PV-V4523S VHS VCR
Hi! We've noticed that once we turn on our Panasonic PV-V4523S VHS VCR, within a couple of seconds, it turns itself off. There is a red rectangle that appears on the screen where the clock is usually lit or the channels appear. There is nothing on the screen that says it is locked. The VCR turns itself off within a couple of seconds. There is also a head or wheel that is continuing to move without any buttons being pushed. There is not any videos in the VCR at this time either. Is there something we can do to fix this or is the machine done for? Thanks!
If there is a mechanism fault on the VCR then the VCR will shut itself down. It sounds like the mechanism might be jammed, it's trying to move to the right position, when power is applied but can't so it stops. One thing that might be wrong is the mode switch might be faulty. This will cause all sorts of thing to happen, including putting on the timer record light even when none has been set.

If it is not a bad soldering joint somewhere, it could be the mode switch. They can sometimes be cleaned with Servisol Video 40, but you might have to replace it.
