See p. 10 of the manual.

The presser foot lifter is on the right side of the leftmost part of the machine, towards the back of the machine. Press up to raise it.

SOURCE: presser foot lever does not lift presser foot

If you can remove the cover on the left side you will see the presser foot bar. On the bar there will be a screw that may be loose. Turn the handwheel until the needle is all the way down and lift the foot manually until just before it makes contact with the needle clamp and tighten the screw on the presser foot bar.
That should do it.

SOURCE: Can I loosen the presser foot so knits will not stretch

Pressure on the pressure foot can be adjusted on some machines by turning the knob on the top leftside of the machine directly above the needle assembly. Look for a knob that has fabric types on it and adjust accordingly. Also check your thread tensions.

Elna 5200Q The material is bunching up in front of the feed dogs

Are the feed dogs actually raising, moving, and dropping (raise the presser foot and hand-rotate the handwheel and watch how the feed dogs are moving)? If not, check to see if the stitch length is set well above the zero (which means it sews in place)? Perhaps the presser foot pressure is set too firm and is preventing the fabric from moving under the foot.

Tension on the side does not release the cotton when machine is stopped, making it difficult to pull out the job.

Be sure to always RAISE the Presser Foot when threading the machine or when removing fabric. When threading or removing the fabric, try raising the needle to its highest point. Raising the presser foot releases the tension disks. When the presser foot is down, the tension disk is engaged and will not release the thread.

Machine will not sew its is looping under neath from top cotton

Remove the upper thread from your machine.

RAISE the presser foot and then rethread from the beginning. Raising the presser foot releases the tension disk so the thread will seat properly). Also, verify that the threading steps are correct (consult the threading instructions).

Check that the bobbin thread has been loaded in the bobbin case properly and threaded through the tension spring.

Test. If the upper thread is still showing under the fabric, tighten the upper tension disk until the upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

Lots of thread on bobbin side

If it is the top thread making gobs under the fabric (thread nesting or bird nesting), usually the upper tension needs to be tightened.

Install a brand new needle. Raise the presser foot and re-thread from the beginning. (Raising the presser foot allows the thread to seat properly in the tension disks.) Check your manual to be sure you are threading correctly. Re-test the stitch and tighten or loosen the upper tension until both upper and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

Hyundai 8 stitch sewing machine confused beginner!?????

Not familiar with your machine, but an important suggestion for all sewing machines:

ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top thread. If you did not do this, remove the top thread completely from the machine and start over by RAISING the presser foot and following the thread path. (Do NOT miss any thread guides or thread any out of order!)

Lower the presser foot and thread the needle. (The top thread will pull through the needle ONLY if the presser foot is raised!) RAISE the presser foot and pull at least 5 inches of thread through the needle. Insert your fabric. Lower the presser foot. Hold the thread tail gently in your left hand and with the right hand manually turn the handwheel one rotation. The needle should pull the bobbin thread up through the fabric.

While still holding the top thread tail, "sweep" under the presser foot with a stiletto, scissors, a nail file (anything that will fit under the presser foot) to pull the remaining bobbin thread tail above the fabric. Grab both thread tails and pull them under the presser foot toward the back of the machine. Now, you are ready to take your first stitch.

You can gently hold those thread tails while you slowly power the machine to take the first couple of stitches on your fabric.

Why does the backing gather up even though it is penned and sprayed with quilting spray

Presser foot tension is to low for the weight/finish of the fabric, or bottom dogs are worn.
  • The feed dog feeds the fabric under the presser foot while you guide the fabric.

  • The feed dog regulates the stitch length by how much fabric passes under the presser foot as the machine stitches.

  • It is important for you to not push and pull the fabric under the presser foot. Allow the feed dog to move the fabric, so that you do not bend and break sewing machine needles.
Hope this helps.

Trouble with my Huskylock 680D overlocker Tensions

You need to re-thread the serger.

Refer to the manual or open the front of the serger to see if the threading diagram is there.

With most sergers, you begin with raising the presser foot, then set the tensions to zero.

Begin the threading with the upper looper (curved looper), then the lower looper and the needles last.

Pull the thread under the presser foot and to the left side of the serger.

Set the tensions back to normal 4 - 5 usually.

Lower the presser foot and hold onto the threas tails as you stitch a chain. If the chain of the four threads is ok, you are ready to serge fabric.
