You have to remove blower housing(the part covering the engine) after first removing the plastic outer red cover.

How can the starter cord be repaired/replaced on a DR Trimmer/Mower with a 6.5 OHV Briggs-Stratton engine.

Replacement cord kits are available in home improvement stores. If the screen cover is pop riveted on you'll need to get replacement pop rivets and a tool to install them. Otherwise, remove the bolts holding it in place and remove the screen. Unwind the broken cord, paying attention as to the direction of the wind. Replace the cord and attach it to the one-way clutch. Don't forget to put the new cord thru the hole in the screen before attaching it to the clutch. Now wind the clutch so the spring starts to pull the cord into the clutch. Pull on the cord to see if it's operating correctly. Once you're satisfied, go ahead and reinstall the screen on the engine.

How do i attach the starter cord to the handle when it only comes a short way out

If the starter cord is too short, then it has probably broken at one time and was just retied. A new cord would have to be installed if this was the case. If it was not broken, then it has jammed or ran over itself in the starter housing.

Replacement of starter cord on HC-150 hedger

You may have wrapped it the wrong way. If not, your spring is either broken, the bend on the end which slides into the plastic has straightened, or the plastic spool has broken where it holds the other bent end of the spring.

The pull cord hasn't snapped it just wont recoil! is this an easy fix?

Sounds like the starter spring has broken, remove the three torx screws securing the starter and remove the starter, prise off the r clip holding the pulley and pawl on ( note the orientation of the clip on the pawl ) remove the pulley, the spring is in a cassette, remove the cassette and replace with new, refit the pulley, make sure the pulley locates properly into the hook on the starter spring, re fit the pawl and r clip, enter the cord into the cut a way in the side of the pulley, now wind the pueey around to tention the spring.

Pull cord stuck about half way out

It may have broken the return spring, or just require re tentioning, remove the starter assembly, try winding the spring up by turning the starter pulley, once you feel more tention on the pulley allow it to pull the cord back in, if you cannot get it to tention, remove the centre screw ( be carfull there is a long spring behind here ) and check the condition of the spring, if broken replace, new springs come in a keeper so they are quite easy to install.

Starter coard broken

The starter housing is removed with a #20 Torx bit, then the cord replacement becomes obvious. You'll need to prewind the spring about half it's capacity before engaging the cord reel to the rewind spring. Good luck with it. These cords won't break if you use short pulls, preferably with your foot holding the right hand hold to the floor.

Please note ! patients is required with this one !
Hi, remove the recoil top cover with the recoil attached. ( DO NOT TAKE OUT THE SPOOL OR YOU COULD HAVE THE SPRING GET YOU IN THE FACE)
Remove old cord.
With your new cord lace it through the recoil spool centre hole with a knott on the end.
now depending if the recoil winds in clockwise when spool is facing you wind the cord around it a few times by turning the spool clockwise,
Then put the cord in the notch at the side of the spool & wind the spool & cord anticlockwise about twice the number of turns of cord (this should tension the spring).
Take your end of the cord & lace it through the hole outside of the casing & fit you pull handle.
But hold the spool firmly untill the cord has a good knott on the end of it.
(Sometimes I see the guys here putting a loop in the cord to stop it sliping in while they tie a knott on the end of the handle.)
