Question about Kenmore Progressive Upright Vacuum - 31069 - Red Pepper

Open Question

Vacuum won't turn on

Brand new, just out of the box I put the handle on according to instructions, made sure screw was tight, plugged it in, and nothing is happening at all. I tried a different wall outlet but that didn't do anything either. Now what? I'm not a repairman or very handy.

SOURCE: Kenmore 33721 does not start

Same thing happened to me. After taking the cover off I noticed a wiring diagram on the inside cover. There is a fuse between the on/off button and the motor, sure enough the fuse had blown. There is no mention of a fuse in the manual! The vacuum works great again.

There is actually an internal fuse in the vacuum. You may have blown this. The circuit board connected to the ON/OFF touch pad may be bad too but probably unlikely. There is also an overheat sensor that trips the vacuum off when it gets too hot. This could be bad preventing it from coming on too. All of these solutions, require you to open the vacuum to fix.

The Brush Motor on my Bissell Healthyhome Vacuum wont start

I had this same problem. There is a screw that holds the top handle and the lower handle "together". If this screw is not TOTALLY tightly screwed in, this will cause the contacts in the switch to BREAK contact, and therefore one or BOTH motors may not start, or cut in and out. This was the fix for me.

You should use a p2 size phillips. there is only one screw right in the center that holds the handle assy on. frequently that screw backs out and allows the handle to slide back and loose connection. make sure the handle is tightly pressed in and the center screw is tight. that should fix your problem. let me know if it doesnt

Vacuum will not turn off

(1) Please check the four screws that mount the upper handle to the lower handle. If they are not tight, the actuation of the switch may not be adequate.

(2) Remove the four screws and the upper handle. you will see the rocker switch in the pocket. If it turns ON/OFF with your finger while plugged in, then switch is OK and you have mechanical activation issue.

Halo vacuum won't **** in upright position

I had a similar problem with my halo vacuum first you have to unscrew the plate over the brush then completlety take everything apart including taking the handle off you have to use a long allen wrench to get to some of the screws once you get the handle off there are screws under the handle you have to be sure to get those then open it up it should pull open easily if you have all the screws out be sure you label them so you know where to put them back once you get to the motor unplug the black and red plugs take the motor out use a small screw driver to stick through the hole in the motor to align the gears then knock the gear on the outside in about 1/2 an inch it should go in easily then put everything back it should only take about 4 hours to fix have fun

The transmission may be out of adjustment.Remove the top cover exposing the pivot handle assembly. On top of the pivot handle assembly, you should clearly see the adjustment screw along with the adjustment spring.Once the adjustment screw is loosened, the spring should automatically adjust the pivot handle to the factory setting.Just make sure the screw is tight

you either have a bad switch or your handle has come loose. in several cases with this vac the handle comes loose and the vac will start acting funny. if you look at the back of the handle and start looking down the first screw you see make sure its tight.

Handle on kirby ultimate g won't stay upright

Just take the handle off, rermove the 2 screws on the front of the cover, remove the plastic piece on the back of the top, then remove the 2 screws and the top cover will come off. There are 2 screws holding the handle pivot on, remove those. Install the new pivot making sure that it alines with the transmissing on the left side, re-install the 2 screws and make sure they are tight. Then put the rest back together.

Bissell 5770 Healthy Home vacuum fell over and now will not power on. Closest service center is 55 miles away. I'm very hands and can fix most things, but never took apart a vacuum yet. Can I do this?

Same thing happened to me. The handle connects to the unit and actually plugs in. If you are lifting or carrying it by the handle then you can unplug the unit from itself. Reconnect it and you should be good to go.
