The idt audio control panel defaults to mute. To get the sound working the panel has to be manually changed from mute.

This is a new problem maybe having to do with the keyboard getting wet. The keyboard is dry and workking fine now.

Why does it go to auto mute, and how do i turn it off?

You did not mention which operating system you are using and it is a bit different in each.

XP: click start > click control panel > click display > click screen saver tab > click the power button > adjust timers to never > click apply

Windows 7: click start > control panel > power option > change plan options >adjust to never > save changes

Windows 8: swipe down right side > search "power" > click on power and sleep > adjust to never

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-1232nr, the mute button and the wireless button on the top touch pad has quit working along with the volume slider. Any suggestions?

My mute button on my hp pavilion dv7-1262us stopped working after I updated my IDT High-Definition Audio CODEC through Microsoft update. The volume worked but the button stayed orange. I went to Device Manager- Sound, video and game controllers then IDT Audio CODEC. Click the Driver tab then click the Roll Back Driver button. This rolled the driver back to an older version but it fixed the problem. This is a Vista machine. Hope this helps.

Default IRQ settings...

If you were just messing around with the keyboard, you have have just muted your audio output. You may even see in the lower right corner of your screen a red circle with a line through it over the volume control icon.
Laptop keyboards have function keys that let you mute your audio from the keyboard. Go into your control panel and click on the sounds icon, see if you have the mute box checked and uncheck it to un-mute your audio
