CARBERATER ADJUSTMENT ON A 330 HOMELITE SAW

As far as the manuals... you might be able to download them at http://www.homelite.com. (you can click on the link) under customer service, you'll find "owner's manuals). To adjust the fuel/air mixture, start the saw and turn the adjustment screws in or out a little at a time until you get the saw running properly. There is no "set" adjustment... as the saw motor ages, those settings will change. If you make adjustments to the fuel/air screws and the saw stops running and starting, turn the adjustment screws all the way in (clockwise) GENTLY... If you force those screws you will damage the needle valve seats! Turn both screws out one and a quarter turns out, and the saw will start. continue adjusting until the saw runs properly. Have patience... it may take a while to get the saw running to your satisfaction.

1 1/4 turns out. Then let it warm up and adjust in up to 1/8

"L", "H", and "T" adjustments are all explained on the link. It is a very good carburetor setting procedure.

Start with “L” & “H” needle valves 1.5 CCW from lightly seated, then adjust for performance as follows.

• CW is leaner; to lean will destroy the saw. If over tightened closed (CW) the adjustment screw faces are easily marred; marred adjustments are difficult to impossible to set properly.
• Clean the air filter; adjusting with a dirty filter can cause a run lean condition once cleaned and the saw run.
• Clean the spark arrestor and muffler; if the saw cannot exhale it cannot inhale.
• There are 2 wav (sound - idle & full - may not be highlighted) files that I find most helpful, I think you will too.
I am going to inject a little philosophy here. Undetected air leaks and defective fuel delivery systems account for most chainsaw failures. Constant adjustment of needle valves can easily camouflage more serious problems that result in burning up your saw. A sudden need for an adjustment may be indicative of a larger problem.

Before adjusting anything, check the fuel filter, air filter, and muffler for plugging. Check the condition of the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Tighten all carburetor fasteners. Make sure you have fresh fuel mix in the tank. Does the primer bulb pull fresh fuel into itself when pumped? Turn both jet screws CW to stops (lightly), then back out CCW 1-1/2 turns each. This is a basic setting and should allow the engine to start and run. Start the engine and allow it to warm up, then pull the throttle full on. Adjust H needle CW until the engine starts to speed up, but still 4-stroking. Proper final adjustment is when the engine 4-strokes unloaded, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. Release the throttle and adjust L needle CW for fairly good idle, but still allows the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Adjust idle speed screw so that the chain stops turning, but the engine will continue to run. Hope this helps!

The numbers Homelite & Ryobi use do not match the numbers everyone posts. A careful inspection of your saw should find something that matches.

Find your saw, all parts are illustrated,

carb adjustment,hi circuit,bring it to max rpms then richen hi idle side til saw loses a small amount of rpm.This and a tad richer mix ratio will ensure a longer saw life.Use itasca as a chain oiler,never motor oil.

what is the adjustment for high and low settings on a homlite 330 ?
