Can you see the camcorder as an extra drive? If you can, you can probably open it up to the DCIM folder and manually copy or move the pics and videos to a folder on your computer. If your new computer is running Windows 7, there may be an incompatibility issue, or some other conflict that will be hard to reconcile, without concerted effort and a lot of time.
The PMB utility may be corrupt, or the hard drive could have a bad sector, it's hard to say but entirely possible.
I would just work around it, if you can, and use the drive folder in Computer to transfer the files to a folder, if that works.
You might check with Sony for a patch if there is some incompatability with the program and your new computer, here's their support site:
Good luck, hope this helps, and thanks for using FixYa.

The answer is YES. Power off your camcorder, take the memory card or hard drive out of your cam, and connect it to your computer as it should appear as a "Removable Drive" or put the card in a card reader attached to your PC.
Then install this software Wondershare Photo Recovery (recover videos and audio files too) on your computer. Then start to scan and see if your deleted files can be got back. Get the program from:
For Windows Version
For Mac version
Remember - Do NOT try & write anything back to your camcoder(card or disk) until you can recover your files safely! Regards

SOURCE: How can i recover deleted
there is a possibilty to recover deleted videos from Sony camcorders.
When you directly deleted videos from your camcorder, there is no
recycle bin thing as on a computer to store deleted files, and this's
why you can't see them when you connect it to your computer.
But deleted videos are not really gone, but it only become invisible
and is available to be overwritten by new files. Therefore, you can
recover any files from Sony camcorders like Sony Handycam, 3D camcorder
download this camcorder recovery software named asoftech data recovery, you can download the data recovery software for free from

Deleting files from camcorder is just like clearing the recycle bin or Trash onyour comptuter. The data itself isn't deleted, just the area containing the deleted data is also now marked as free space so it is available for any new data to be written there instead. So a simple delete won't make your videos erased permanently.
As a result, you have chance to retrieve those deleted videos as long as the video data on your camcorder(memory card or hard disk) are not written over. And the best way is to try some video recovery software, recommended Asoftech Data Recovery as it helped me before, the program can also recover photos and music.
video photo recovery program
First of all you need to install the program on your computer, then connect your camcorder (memory card or HDD) to the computer and start to recover your deleted videos.
