See if there is an off/on switch if it is wireless. check if the drivers are installed. if you have the drivers installed and it is turned on it may be broken

SOURCE: KEYBOARD PROPLEM

Hi Sam,

Sorry your problem got left in the que for a while, but Lee apparently wasn't familiar with that keyboard. You do have an extra key near the start button that activates the Tags and other coloured symbols while in french or multi language mode. Simply use it like a shift key.

If you're not using the HP to type in french and don't require the accents you can change the setting in windows to tell the computer that your keyboard is a US english keyboard which will reassign all the keycodes to the "normal" locations by english speaking standards.

To do so, open your control panel, click on the classic mode link if it's not already in classic mode(20+ icons). Then click on the regional settings icon. Depending on wether you have Vista or XP the panel varies slightly XP has a keyboards tab, Vista has a Input Devices tab. Either way go to that tab and click the button to adjust input devices, on the page that pops up you will see a list of available, installed keyboards. If US english isn't listed click the ADD button find it in the list and add it.

If you only type in english, remove all other keyboards. If you use french as well, remove all but the canadian french/canadian multilingual depending which you have(if you don't know follow instructions below to find out). Then OK out of the window. OK the regional settings window and close the control panel. If you only select US english you're done, if you left French as an option you will see a small blue icon to the left of the clock, you can click on it at any time to switch between your installed keyboard modes.

Hope this Helps FixYa!

Chris

Model info for your product can be found at www.hp.com click Support & Drivers, then select the Knowledgebase button on the next screen and type in your full model number or allow the automated link to check your model online. When it launches your product page select Product Specifications from the long list in the middle and if it brings up a second list select the same.

You can now scroll down the specs and your keyboard will be listed as either Canadian English/French/Multiligual, all three have some variation of the keys you described.

SOURCE: keyboard is not working

  • Hi, these instructions will help you, first, click on the "Start" button, in the "Start Search Window, Type: keyboard; the "Keyboard's" Properties window will open. You can (Test) to see exactly how your keyboard is responding. if you are still having the same problem, (check the Keyboard Status), try "Updating the Drivers," by clicking on the "Properties" button. Now in the event that neither of these solutions solve the problem, which I hope you shouldn't have to do anymore; try "Uninstalling the Keyboard. To "Uninstall the "keyboard," do the following. Shut-down (turn- off completely), disconnect all the Keyboard Devices that are attached to the Computer. Next, turn-on the computer, and go back to the "Keyboard Properties," this time click on the "Change Settings" button, next click on the "Driver" button, and select the "Uninstall" button. Once that is finished, shut-down the computer again. Now you want to "Reconnect" all the devices that were connected before, and "Turn-on" the computer. You will repeat exactly what you did from the start, this will "Reinstall the Keyboard. Restart the computer again after all changes have been made; this will ensure the changes take place properly. "Rating the solution will let me know if it worked, or you may need further assistance, thanks."

How do I shut off talking navigator on windows 8

Here are a few things to try:
[WIN]+[ENTER] (seems to turn narrator on and off)
[CAPS LOCK] + [ESC] (Seems to turn off narrator)
Win 8.1: Control Panel > Optimize visual display (Ease of Access > Ease of Access Center > Make the Computer Easier to see) > uncheck "Turn on Narrator".

I accidentally turned on Windows Narrator using [win]+[enter], so my control panel didn't have the narrator box checked... which means going to control panel didn't turn it off. Finding those hotkeys came in very handy.

you could have accidently changed to external monitor with Fn +F(the number is 8 on my comp but could be 5 on yours-check keys on top of the keyboard it has a picture rectangle / little TV), anyways to check that attach external monitor to your laptop(must have a VGA cable) if you have a picture on external monitor try Fn + F(depends on what you have on ur keyboard) it should bring you a window with choices to choose laptop LCD or external LCD choose 1st one .
hope that is it.

HP Pavillion ze4400 can this laptop use an external mouse & keyboard ?

Any external USB mouse can be connected to the system. As well as USB keyboard. Or specifically if you go through HP, the mouse part number is: NR152AA, and keyboard is GM321AA. As far as non-HP products you will need to check on compatibility on each. Hope this helps you in this question.
