dyer stops after a few minutes-----starts as you press start button

  • Anonymous Dec 07, 2007

My kenmore 80 series dryer started doing this a couple days ago as well. Works fine for about 4 or 5 minutes or so then just stops. Starts back up just fine for another 4 or 5 minutes. I tried all the different settings to see if that made a difference. I also varied the amount of clothes in it. Nothing changed the outcome though. It's like there is a sensor going out like the door switch or some sort of overload sensor.

Could be thermal overload in motor its a motor protector in the motor when the motor gets hot it cuts power to the motor when motor cools it closes and resets age of drier counts some times you can take drier apart and blow dust out of motor and will fix now if the door is not closing tight vibration can cause door switch to break contact that will do it too most of time motor or relay must be replaced

How to receive the best dryer repair help on FixYa

There are a couple of things that you should include in your dryer repair question so you receive the quickest and most accurate answers.

1. Model Number

The model number can be located on the model/serial number tag that is located on the dryer.

Make sure you get the full model number from this tag and not the model number from the owners manual.

The model number from the owners manual only includes the first few digits of the full model number because they include that owners manual with many similar models of dryers.

With the full model number I'm able to look up factory service manuals, tech sheets, wiring diagrams, factory service pointers and so much more.

2. Detailed description of the problem

At the very least give a brief description of the problem you are having with your dryer.

Descriptions like 'My dryer don't work' is not very helpful.

Describe what is not working. For example is the not heating? Maybe the dryer is heating, but takes a long time to dry?

The more details you can give the better. Instead of saying 'The dryer is heating, but takes a long time to dry' you could go into more detail and say something like...

"I put a load of cloths in my dryer and set it on the auto dry cycle. When I went to take them out two hours later the dryer was still running. The cloths were still a bit damp too. Most of the time I can dry a load of cloths this size in one hour. Why is my dryer taking so long to dry?"

Following these couple tips can help you get a faster and more accurate reply to your dryer repair question.

Whirlpool ggw9868kq .Ducts are clean, airflow is good. Drum rotates. Dryer warms up then heating stops. happens in both auto and timed cycles.

My whirlpool dryer Model GGW9896KQ2 seems to run ok but it doesn't seem to heat up properly and takes several cycles to dry clothes. I checked the exhaust vent and it seems to be blowing air out ok. Also, it appears the dryer goes to the cool down cycle way to early. In addition, the dryer will sometimes shut off before the time is acutally done. help--I don't want to spend money for a tech or even a new dryer. It's only 8 years old.

My dryer stops drying after 10 min. All the lights flash on the right hand side. I've tried different drying settings and different amounts of clothing. Nothing works. What's wrong?

My dryer does the same thing. Additionally, it is not heating what so ever. Clothes are cool and damp, and heating vents at back of dryer are cold to the touch.

Kenmore 11066912690 dryer stops working

if you are using the sensor drying cyle this could cause the unit to stop. it will detect the most dry clothing first usually light clothes that dry faster.if not and you are useing timed dry the most likely cause is a faluty timer,or a thermostat sesnor is going bad and turnoing off the dryer before the clothes are dry

The Dryer heats up for a while and the stops heating after running for a while.

Without the specific model number to work with, I'm taking a guess that your dryer has a sensor at the back of the drum. That is the dryness sensor that the clothes rub against and let's the dryer determine if the clothes are dry, according to the setting you selected on the control knob.

First thing to do is use some Windex on a clean cloth to clean the senor strips as use of dryer softener sheets can leave a residue that builds up on the sensor and could be causing it to stop.

The other thing you can do is use the timed dry cycle to see if the dryer works correctly. If the dryer works OK in the regular timed cycle, then it is possible you have a defective sensor.

Without more information about your dryer, It is difficult to provide more possible diagnostic steps and provide you with a possible solution.

My dryer takes long time to dry the clothes. It

Check the following areas thoroughly to address this issue.

1. Venting
Make sure the dryer vent hose, as well as the rest of the vent duct, is not clogged.

Unless regular maintenance is performed, chances are there is a lot of lint accumulated inside the dryer. This might affect the drying time and could be a fire hazard. Make sure to have your dryer cleaned regularly. Because this might involve taking most of the dryer apart, it is recommended to have a qualified appliance repairman perform this task.

2. Thermostat
There are a couple of cycling thermostats inside the dryer. If one of them breaks down, it might affect the dryer's performance. Replace the defective thermostat.

3. Heating element
A heating element might only be partially burned out, in which case it would still work but will take longer time to dry the clothes. Replace the element if found defective.

NOTE***(This unit is equipped with a dryness control board. if all points above check out ok, replace this board).

Maytag Neptune MDG 5500 AWQ heats sporatically

your dryer has a safety feature that it will not run or heat when the door is opened. It is so no gas fumes are exhauseted into your home. Once the safety is engaged, It will not allow the dryer to restart for a short while. It should clear itself after only a few minutes. Hope this helps, good luck.

Dryer works for few minutes then stops

clothes can open the door if door latch is weak, causing door opening and stopping the cycle, or a bad automatic sensor
