VGA is analog - HDMI is digital
if u have a cable w/o a converter it won't work unless your video card supports digital signal output through VGA port function. Please consult with your laptop's user manual for more information.

Laptop to T.V. connectivity

This is my first time using this site, but I will try my best to assist you.
From what I understand, you want to connect your laptop display to your T.V. In turn using your T.V. as a "monitor".
So you were wondering if you could use a S400 to HDMI cable to accomplish this. Unfortunately I don't believe this is possible with that cable. To my best knowledge, S400 ports are only capable of transferring DATA between devices, not VIDEO. A VGA or HDMI cable will accomplish what you want. I don't think your laptop has a HDMI port, so I recommend buying a male-to-male VGA cable.
I looked up your T.V. and it looks it should have a VGA input port. This is what I did for my laptop and 32 inch LCD T.V. when i accidently cracked my laptop's screen.
It may not be High Definition, but you should be able to get fairly decent resolution. Make sure your T.V. is on the "Computer" input channel. (Or equivalent)
I don't recommend buying a VGA to HDMI cable converter as it usually doesn't result in improved quality.
I hope this helps! Good luck!

I have a del latitude E6410 laptop and would like to know how to connect it to a pansonic 42 flatscreen hdtv to use it as a moniter

Dell Latitude E6410 does not offer HDMI or DV. Only VGA Port is available. Therefore in order to connect the laptop with the TV, you can use VGA cable.
But if the VGA input is not available on the TV, you need to get VGA-to-DVI or VGA-to-HDMI Adapter, depending upon the type of port available on the TV.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

Connect laptop to samsung txk2766

Your TV is a CRT as opposed to the more modern LCD type. Natively it doesn't have a VGA port that a more modern type would. So, in order to connect your laptop to it, you'll need to buy a converter. If I were you, I wouldn't do so because your TV is a CRT and it wouldn't look as nice or sharp as a computer monitor. You can get a 27" LCD on the cheap, so why not get a new TV instead?

I have a inspiron1300,and i wondered if it is possibe to connect it to my philips hdready sure which cable to use

You never mentioned what model Philips TV you have, however I've researched several and most seem to have a VGA video port in the back of them. If you have one of these (15 pin D connector) on the back of your TV you should be able to purchase a corresponding VGA cable (you'll want female pins on one side of the cable and male pins on the other side) and plug one side into the VGA port on your laptop and the other cable into the TV. Then use your TV remote to select that input. Should work fine!
See item 8 in the attached user guide link to see what I'm talking about.
I hope this response helps you out.
I wish you the very best of luck! If I can help you further, please let me know.

The best way is to get a s-video converter to connect your round s-video computer output to your HDMI port on your tv. This is the best you can do according to your laptop connections. You will need a s-video cable, HDMI upscale converter box and HDMI cable.

The other way is to plug a VGA cable to your tv VGA port if you have one.

VGA to HDMI is also possible with a converter. A standard VGA cable with a HDMI plug on the other side will not work because your computer sends out an analog video signal and HDMI is digital only.

Hope it helps!

I have a Dell latitude D600 laptop

The D600 has no TV out option, the only Output for visual display is the monitor VGA port.

You would need a converter for the normal VGA to DVI Cable.

Connect Laptop to TV

It depends on what kind of TV you have. If you have a flat-panel LCD or plasma TV, it may have a VGA connection already installed. If that is the case, all you need is a standard VGA cable to connect from your notebook to your TV.

If you have a TV without a VGA connection you will need a scan converter to convert your signal from VGA to RCA or composite video signal. These can be purchased online or from electronics stores like Radio Shack. You plug your VGA connection from the computer to the scan converter, then RCA or composite video cables from the converter to the TV.

Hope this helps. Please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks.
