A stiff handwheel can be a simple as a thread stuck in the raceway or as severe as a failed uppershaft bushing.
Using your instruction manual, perform the basic maintenance and see if that helps. If not, take it to a repair person for evaluation.

I think you need to start with number 4 and adjust depending on your fabric.
Have a look at this manual for the My Style 100, near the end it explains how and why to adjust the tension.
