Peavey vypyr VIP 2 loud buzz

I received a peavey vypyr VIP 2 this past Christmas and it sometimes works, but other times I turn the amp on and get this extremely loud buzzing/screeching sound. It's not feedback because it happens even without anything plugged in and when the volume knob is turned to 0. I've tried using a different power chord, using a different outlet, and plugging into a surge protector, but it still happens. I can never be sure when it'll work fine and when it's gonna just sound like someone dropped a live microphone in the garbage disposal. I have look inside at the speaker with a flashlight and everything appears to be connected and the speaker doesn't seem to have any visible damage or short. I have been careful with the amp itself so it hasn't been dropped to the extent of my knowledge unless the retailer dropped it before I purchased it. Any idea what's going on with my amp? I know it's not feedback or a problem with volume or gain.

SOURCE: Peavey KB 300 amp problems

Hi there.

You have have been unfortunate enough to experience an uncommon failure. The bass driver has failed. It is a Black Widow that can have the basket/cone/voice coil assembly replaced as a complete unit. The magnet unbolts from the basket and you bolt on a new one. Classic field service designed product. You will be able to get a new basket from a Peavey equipment stockist. Just ask for a 15' Black Widow replacement basket They cost about $180 here in Australia and you can easily change it yourself. Good Luck and happy jamming.

A FixYa rating would be great for my tech tip to you. Cheers

regards
Graeme

Sounds like wiring problems. Unhook everything, then get owners manual for proper instruction

You could also use speakers rated less than 400 RMS provided you dont crank the volume knobs all the way up.
I think the CS400 is 200 Watts RMS per channel into 8 ohms
400 watts bridged

Here's the manual. You'll need acrobat to open it.

Hi...
That 28V RMS means how many RMS volts max comes out of the speaker terminals.
As long as your speakers can handle a couple hundred watts , youre fine.

SOURCE: Marshall G15RCD 15 Watt Amp - Buzzing like a Chainsaw

I had the same problem with my amp. you need to re solder or replace and re solder one of your jacks. Most likely the JK1 the jack that you plug your guitar chord into. If you take your amp apart you can wiggle the jack, it probably just needs to be re soldered onto the board, very easy fix. (Be careful with the IC4 chip connecting the holder plate, its very common to break the pins during the repair process. Just unscrew it from the metal plate and that will keep it from wiggling and breaking off). I found a web site that sells the JK1 jack for like 5 bucks but you can prob. contact Korg in NY and order the part or have a guitar shop order it for you. Good Luck!!

I have a peavey VIP2 amp.Can I use my acoustic/electric guitar in the electric guitar setting

You can not only play it on electric guitar setting, you can play it LOUD. Its all about what YOU do and what YOU like. Dont accept it when somebody tells you that the music you're playing doesnt sound good to them. ITS YOUR MUSIC !
Do whatever you want. And NO it wont hurt guitar or amp. Rock on or whatever it is you do.

My vypyr tube 60 is making a whining noise on the higher gaine amps especially the 6505 and satriani settings.

You might need to send it off to Peavey and have them repair it. Something is wrong with the computer. Check your warranty.
