SOURCE: My Proform 8.5 personal fitness trainer will no longer work

Hello there, It seems that you have a stuck button or a problem with the ifit card area. Yes I know you probably dont use it but just listen. If you have the demo card for the unit try putting the demo card into the ifit slot and press it in and out a couple of times. This will sometimes correct this problem. If that does not correct it then you will need to replace the console or possibly disconnect the ifit section from the console itself. Either way you will need to remove the console.
If more info is needed please leave me a note here and I will get back to you asap.
Good Luck! Tim

SOURCE: the console of my treadmill displays time and speed incorrectly

Hi. if you are talking about the same segment in all the characters of your display being lit, then it is a console problem - it will not be a hard thing to fix but you will need a board level electronic serviceperson to do it for you

SOURCE: When I turn on the treadmill, the incline is stuck

ICON CALIBRATION INSTRUCTIONS- INCLINE
1) Press the Stop and the Speed Up keys down while inserting the safety key. If this doesn’t work, click on the help topic entitled “Alternate Calibration Codes” for key sequence instructions to enter calibration.
2) Press the Stop key one time. The Time window should read EP:2P. Some newer models may also say FP, Pass, or the like. This means that it passes the EPROM test.
3) Press either incline key and the incline will calibrate automatically.
4) THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT STEP BECAUSE YOU WILL GET AN ERROR MESSAGE IF THIS STEP IS SKIPPED. After completing calibration of incline, press the Stop key and then remove the safety key.

  1. If the incline moves but you it will not operate normally nor calibrate, check the wiring from the incline sensor to the power board. If all looks normal, put it back in calibration and see if you see a blinking “- -” symbol in the incline window when you are calibrating. If not, the incline sensor is bad.

  2. If the incline moves but only just a bit, it could be a problem as simple as the gearbox on the motor being jammed. We remove the motor from the treadmill, reconnect the wiring, and then try to run the incline motor outside the treadmill. Many times, this will unjam it if that is the problem and then reinstalling it in the treadmill will get it to work. If you have the same problem or it doesn’t run outside the machine and you can hear it try to work, you need to replace the incline motor.

  3. If the incline motor does not move, we need to figure out if the motor is getting voltage. Use a simple multi-meter and set it to AC volts. When you put it into calibration, it tries to calibrate the directions one at a time. Measure across the white and black wires first, then measure across the white and red wires second. If the motor is getting voltage you will read 120VAC (or thereabouts) one one of the measurements. If you have voltage but the motor won't move, you need to replace the motor.

If the incline motor does not move and you have done the voltage test and you do not have any voltage present, there is a problem in the electronics board that supplies the power. If the console is powering the drive motor as normal, you can bet it is getting an incline signal and the power board needs to be replaced (some models have an integrated power board/controller) so if there is only a single board the whole board has to be replaced

SOURCE: I have a Reebok 3500C

That key is the safety system of your treadmill - without it the motor (and only it) of the treadmill stops. The key itself is nothing more than a piece of plastic with a few very small magnets in it - it simply cannot go wrong.
The defect is in the console - the processor of the treadmill has failed. You will have to call a repairman to replace it.

hi,
Check the safety switch near the power switch if the safety switch is OFF then the treadmill will not run. Also check one more thing there will be a another magnetic safety key comes with the treadmill which will be tied on a thread. You have to place this safety key on the position provided in the middle of the hadle bar. If this key is not placed then teradmill will not start. its a safety key . You can see the safety key on the picture in the operation maual. Check page number 6 of owners manual.

OK

My Nordic track exp2000 treadmill, console turns on but the treadmill is completely unresponsive except, the play button. What do I do

Possible problems include, defective console, defective wire harness or defective Main board(Circuit Board)

If you have an available console to switch your current one out with, please do so to see if it starts working. This way its a sure shot test, if it works then you just need a new console.

If it does not work then you will have to perform a few other tests to fully figure out the problem.

One basic check for the displays of the console not working is as follows:

  • Remove the key from the console and unplug the power cord.
  • Remove the main shroud and locate the reed switch and the magnet on the left side of the pulley.
  • Turn the pulley until the magnet is aligned with the reed switch. Make sure that the gap between the magnet and the reed switch is about 1/8".
  • If necessary, loosen the screw and move the reed switch slightly. Re-tighten the screw.
  • Re-attach the hood and run the treadmill for a couple of minutes.

Hope this helps but if this does not work we would be more than happy to help you out :) by phone 888-713-2880 or by chat at www.sportsmith.net

We look forward to hearing from you! Otherwise, good luck on the repair :)

Will not turn on. flashing blue light

If the console only reads zeros or the controls do not function properly, try adjusting the reed switch. You will need a Phillips screwdriver to remove the motor hood and adjust the reed switch. Unplug the power cord, remove the motor hood and locate the reed switch, which is on the left side of the belt pulley. Rotate the pulley until a small magnet comes into view next to the reed switch. Loosen, but do not remove, the screw on the switch and move the switch with your hand until the gap between the switch and the magnet is 1/8 inch. Tighten the screw and replace the motor hood. Treadmill won't start. Console works but when push start or any of the buttons it beeps and nothing happens. It incline, change speed. I unplugged and restarted but nothing.

If the console takes batteries, replace them. If this does not work or your console does not require batteries, check the reed switch or optic sensor. Reed Switch: Unplug the treadmill and remove the motor hood cover. The reed switch is mounted on the frame next to the front roller pulley. There is a magnet glued into the front roller pulley. When adjusting the reed switch, make sure it is pointing directly at the magnet. Move the tip of the reed switch within 1/8" of the magnet. Also, check to see that the wire is not damaged, and is connected to the console
.
Optic Sensor: Unplug the treadmill and remove the motor hood cover. The optic disk and sensor are located either at the end of the motor or the right hand side of the front roller. The optic disk spins between two sensors on the optic switch. The disk must spin freely without touching either sensor. The sensors can be moved by loosening the adjustment bolt holding the switch to its bracket. The switch can then be slid. Center the disk.

Can you get power to a treadmill without the safety key? I have a Nordictrack treadmill EXP 1000 XI treadmill.

Hello there. Yes you actually can use a magnet. (thats all the safety key is) It will need to be strong enough to make the switch inside the console activate. I use one from a telescoping magnet used for picking up small screws (available at the big box stores) when I dont have one on service calls.
Just to let you know a refrigerator magnet will not be strong enough!

Will the treadmill work when the chip is not plugged in, or does it just beep every time you select a button? If so, your problem is easy to solve. The board that supports the two adjacent up and down buttons has slipped. To fix, you'll need to remove the panel and remove the 3-inch retaining bar which is held in my two screws. Realign the board so the buttons are free to move in the available slots. Good luck.
