Start the car and turn on headlights, if there is no change when you rev the engine then the alternator needs new brushes or belt is slipping on pulley or voltage regulator has filed in the alternator, sometimes you can buy these in car parts shops, but you will have to remove it from the alternator and physically show it to the salesperson to match.
