Question about Canon PIXMA Office Equipment & Supplies
I am getting the "5100" error code repeatedly after shutting down and restarting printer. It makes a loud screeching noise when restarted. It happened just after putting in a new ink tank. I cannot see if ink is seated properly because the ink carriage does not return to the center of the printer. If this something I can repair myself?

SOURCE: error 5100
Have you taken the printer apart? as the issue I had with our spare printer was that the home mechanics around here had taken ours apart for some reason and had not put the paper roller pin back in correctly. it was sticking out preventing the ink tank holder from moving.

I had the same problem. all i did was open the printer up and moved
the thing that holds the cartridges to the middle by hand. mine seems
to be working fine.
#1 Move the cartridge holder back to the right manually, but carefully - close lid and turn the printer off, then on again.
#2 Move the printer cartridge and shut down three times, but it finally kicked in and started working again. Don't give up just trying it once.

I would Hold down the "Menu" and "Cancel" Button then for "Reset Printer" ,Turn Off the Printer remove the cartridges then reset them again. Along with the Drum Unit. Something is Not Seating properly
start thier first.

Clean the timing strip.
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .
Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.
