This is my first car and I want to change the oil so I need to know what type of filter I need, spin on or cartridge?, plus quantity of oil need including filter

Good maintenance is what keeps a car, bike or truck safe and reliable and slows depreciation of the value.

Breakdowns can't be planned, they are never convenient and usually cost more to put right than can easily be afforded. Good maintenance can virtually eliminate breakdowns and the really good news is maintenance can be planned.

It is true that oil changes are important but there is much, much more to good maintenance than an oil change, in fact modern engines are so clean the oil change has lost much of it's traditional importance and moved down the list considerably.

I advise you to begin your car ownership as you mean to continue - by doing your best for your car. I suggest you begin by investing in a Haynes manual or similar for your car. The first couple of chapters cover maintenance schedules and how to complete each item and also provides valuable technical information such as oil grades, quantities and almost everything you will need to know.

Oil filters aren't expensive so if there is doubt about which to buy why not buy both sale or return.
Choose your brand of oil and there will be an application catalogue that will tell you the grade of oil and the quantity you need.

Good luck!

What kind of oil should I use for Fellowes DM15C. And is there any other maintenance that should be done. The manual was very sparse about maintenance.

Fellows does have its own brand of shredder oil that you can use .... but most brands will work just as well. Oiling your shredder gears is the only regular maintenance that is required.

How to tune up 2008 toyota rav 4

As the cars technology advances, the term tune up is fading and replacing with term Scheduled Maintenance Service. For most of the cars the time for these maintenance service is at 30K, 60K and 90K. You have to choices:
Service your car by yourself, or send to a dealer. Because maintenance services might be as basic as an oil change, air filter replacement, or more complicated as brake job, coolant system flush, brake fluid flush, transmission oil and filter change, and finally as complicated as, timing belt/chain replacement, if you decide to service by yourself, I recommend to Haynes Repair Manual, Specific for your car.
For your car Toyota provides all Scheduled Maintenance Services according to the miles on your car at:
http://smg.toyotapartsandservice.com/

Please note:

Honda makes reference to proper vehicle maintenance in their service/user manual. Consult your authorized Honda dealer before doing anything that may void your vehicle warranty.

Resetting the Engine Oil Life
Indicator

Your dealer will reset the display
after completing the required
maintenance service. You will see
‘‘OIL LIFE 100 %’’ on the odometer/
trip meter display the next time you
turn the ignition switch to the ON
(II) position.

If maintenance service is done by
someone other than your dealer,
reset the maintenance minder as
follows:

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON
(II) position.

2. Press the Select/Reset knob until
the engine oil life indicator is
displayed.

3. Press the Select/Reset knob for
more than 10 seconds. The engine
oil life indicator and the
maintenance item code(s) will
blink.

4. Press the Select/Reset knob for
more than 5 seconds. The
maintenance items code(s) will
disappear, and the engine oil life
will reset to ‘‘100.’’

Important Maintenance
Precautions

If you have the required service
done but do not reset the display, or
reset the display without doing the
service, the system will not show the
proper maintenance intervals. This
can lead to seriousmechanical
problems because you will no longer
have an accurate record of when
maintenance is needed.
Your authorized Honda dealer
knows your vehicle best and can
provide competent, efficient service.
However, service at a dealer is not
mandatory to keep your warranties
in effect. Maintenance may be done
by any qualified service facility or
person who is skilled in this type of
automotive service. Make sure to
have the service facility or person
reset the display as previously
described. Keep all receipts as proof
of completion, and have the person
who does the work fill out the
maintenance record. Check your
warranty booklet for more
information.
