Towel caught in front roller

Well, it sounds like you have a belt sander. I would start by sacrificing the towel and the belt. Even if you tried all day and were able to save them they would probably look like they got caught in a sander. Get a utility knife and change the blade, you will want a brand new sharp blade for this. Start by cutting as much of the exposed towel off as you can. Remember, at this point the only thing you might be able to save is the sander. Cutting off the belt will relieve the tension. When you cut the belt give yourself enough belt on ether side to get a good grip. You might need to pull the belt back and forth as you remove small pieces of the towel. A good pair of pliers might help grip the towel fragments. When you finally do remove all the towel and the belt, take some time to look around the drum for fibers that might be stuck in the bearings and pull them out. You may need needle knows pliers for this. Keep the towel shreds for sating rags to finish the project you're working on so it will not be a total waist.
Good Luck

Makita Belt Sander 9404 - dust collection bag not collecting the dust. Shooting dust out the front. What can be done to remedy this?

the tool needs cleaned thoroughly. there might be a section of a belt that has jammed the passageway. UNPLUG the tool and turn over to see on the backside if the clog is there, if not I would recommend using safety glasses and compressed air to blow thru the channels to dislodge the material. I havae also used a shop vac to help in this.

I have a Porter Cable Model 371 2.5" X 14" Belt Sander. I broke a belt, when I did it jammed and also broke a rubber sleeve that covers the Drive Wheel. I have yet to find this rubber sleeve in any part...

Unfortunatly that sleeve is not available, you will need to purchase a whole new drive wheel. The Drive wheel is $9.66 from DeWalt Service Net. Porter Cable, Delta & DeWalt are all owned by Stanley Black & Decker, you can contact DeWalt Factory Service for all parts. 1-800-4-DeWalt You can order the parts on-line, over the phone or though a local service center. The website is www.dewaltservicenet.com Below is the parts diagram for your sander. The part number for the drive wheel is A16439

My Makita 9901 belt sander is used but very slightly and now is just frustrating to even use. What is the most common cause for tensioning roller to keep pulling the sanding belt over against the housing?...

Hi,
There is a screw that changes the angle of the roller to change the tracking of the belt... this is very sensitive and probably if you are having trouble is more a reflection of the belt quality then the sander...try different belts before you toss the sander... I have had one for years and love it... although the belt tracking is tricky sometimes anss your have to keep after it...
The adjust ment is very touchy only turn it maybe 1/8 turn at a time...

The vibrating plate stopped vibrating but the motor seems to be working ok. Either the plate is jammed or something broke. What do you think? This sander is probably 30 years old, very heavy duty.

check the bearing in the platen, it is probably seized up. you can go to Milwaukeetool.com and download a breakdown for this tool. Let me know and I will try and help further.

Delta disc and 1" belt worled yesterday, not today. I turn the switch on and the disc "twitches" and the motor hums. I can turn the disc by hand so it's not jammed. Belts are good. Any ideas???

the motor has lost its polarity it uses magnetic electric polarity to turn around. the fault is just as bad as a burned out motor you could have the motor rewound but it would cost more than the entire unit..

sorry
take care.

My Makita 9910 sander has the belt jammed. It started to walk sideways until it got jammed under the plastic at the edge. I can't move it after releasing tension. In fact now I have torn the sodding...

There should be a lateral running adjustment knob that corrects for this problem. It's too late for the current belt--get it out any way you can. Once you have a new belt in, bump the power button and try to correct the tracking in bursts. Once it is tracking, make only minor changes in the tracking adjustment so that you don't over-correct. Good luck!

How do you stop paper jamming on a belt sander

there is a knob that moves the front roller [rotates] the roller side to side to center a moving belt - the grit belt. the roller has a slight bevel from the center out to the edge. both edges. use the trigger to start the belt in short spurts and move the knob. eventually you'll get the belt to track on center.

Should you oil head on 6" Fein random orbit

No oil, it will collect more dust and jam up your sander. An airsol can put out by TECHSPRAY called RID_OX lubricates and cleans without collecting dust and is safe on most plastics, you will find it at an Electronics supply store.
