Question about Frigidaire Affinity ATF7000E Front Load Washer
I use tide detergent, and downy softener and my towels are not soft. The rest of the laundry is OK.

SOURCE: Smely Clean Clothes
We had a similiar problem. It was mildew in the washer and in the fabrics. We ran two or three empty loads with some bleach added in, and we leave the door open so the drum dries.
The towels and clothes we hung out in bright sunlight. The UV rays kill the mildew.

unplug the washer and wait 5 minutes before plugging it in again!
this resets the system. If this does not work then you may have a faulty door lock, latch, or switch!
An need hands on service on location

This won't affect drying time unless the load is so heavy it causes the cabinet to warp and disturb the door seal. If you haven't had any problem with this so far you can probably keep doing it. (The machine is designed to support the weight of a wet load in the drum, and should have some safety margin. But why not invest in a roll-around laundry cart like you find at laundromats and keep the wet load there until the dryer is clear?) You might need to be more concerned about rust starting on the top of the cabinet if the enamel is scratched, since it's not usually subjected to wet loads being piled there. You should also check your vent pipe frequently to make sure it stays clear with all the drying you do. Clogged lint screens and vent pipes will definitely lengthen drying time.

Having a water softening unit and keeping it working properly are two different things....when was the last time the system was regenerated? Has the hardness of the water been tested lately? Even though you have a softener, it dose sound like a hard water problem....First step would be to get the water tested not only for harness but also for mineral content. Test the water before and after regenerating the unit. Some home improvement centers have a home water test kit available that would be quicker and cheaper but not as reliable as having a lab do it. The home test kits may point you in the right direction before spending for a lab to test. Hope this helps. Let me know what you find.

I cleaned the seal on mine, ran a cycle with bleach and no clothes, leave the door open when I think of it and most importantly...switched from liquid HE to powder HE and stopped using liquid fabric softner. This really seemed to help. I read on another site that the liquids contain animal fats that dont rinse away as easily and build up in your machine causing the odor.
