The auger is no longer turning. How do I fix it?


Check for broken shear bolts first. Then, move on and check the auger belt. Finally, if all those are ok, check the gear housing on the auger drive shaft (right in front, between the two auger blades).

Frigidaire frs6lf7fm. Ice maker dispenser, the auger won't turn (tested with ttay out). It makes ice and dumps it into the bin no problem. And the water side is fine.

Hi Brenda,

This machine makes use of two levers on the handle. The right controls the drive and the left controls the auger. When both are released, the drive wheels and the auger should stop. The impeller (the part inside that pushes snow up and out of the chute) will run as long as the motor is running and not controlled by the levers.

You said the auger continues to spin even when the lever is released. Both levers are connected by a flexible, thin, steel cable that extends down to a "wheel" or pulley assembly that is held in place by two hex nut bolts to the rear (operator position) corners of the machine. The steel cable should be ON the wheel - not hanging in free air and not wedged between the pulley and pulley support. Loosening the bolts and adjusting the pulley UPWARD should reduce tension / provide SLACK required to disengage the auger when the lever is released (adjust for a *small* amount of slack only). Positioning the pulley DOWNWARD increases tension that reduces the amount travel the lever needs to ENGAGE the auger. The pulley assembly position needs to be adjusted so that when the lever is released, the auger shuts off, and when squeezed, the auger turns on. These same adjustment procedures can be used for the DRIVE lever control, too.

If you are unable to adjust the cable so that there is a little slack, then there is a problem with the cable at the other end - inside the machine. It will require someone who is mechanically inclined - or snow blower serviceman to adjust / repair this for you if you lack the tools and understanding to do the work yourself. It is not likely to be an expensive repair, however. You should ask for an estimate or be given the opportunity to authorize repairs before they are started.

Left auger does not engage/spins freely


The shear pin is sheared off. Somewhere along the auger, you'll find a hole drilled all the way through it. The shaft inside also has a hole drilled all the way through it. Compare the two augers - the holes are USUALLY in a straight line with each other (when one is up/down, the other is also up/down).

Get a replacement shear pin (DO NOT use a hardened bolt!) and put it through the holes when the auger holes are lined up with the axle holes.

Snow thrower auger won't turn


One of the grip levers should engage a clutch that controls the augers. The other grip lever should engage a clutch to drive the wheels. Figure out which is which, and track the linkage from that lever down to the gearbox between the augers and the impeller. See if there's an adjustment you can make there.

If not... the gearbox may be damaged, possibly by hitting a solid object with hardened bolts in the place of your shear pins. ALWAYS use soft shear pins!

My yardmachine snow blower 8hp auger won't turn. I replaced the cable and belt but it still won't turn. What else could be wrong?


Check the auger shear pins replace if necessary with correct parts(not regular bolts).
If auger and the impeller are not turning your cable is out of adjustment.
If only the auger doesn't turn, and the shear pins are ok then the brass/bronze gear has shredded which is why proper shear pins must be used. Donyboy73 on youtube show how to replace that gear on an older but similar MTD affiliated blower.

It's correct as it is. Only one wheel is used to drive the auger. The other wheel is free to rotate without turning the auger. If both wheels were connected to the auger, the spreader would be much harder to turn at the end of the row. You will notice when you make a sharp turn in one direction the auger can remain still and the outer wheel turns easily. If you make a sharp turn in the other direction, then it is harder to turn because the auger is turning. You can make this work to your advantage if you have a large yard. The reason there are unused holes in the free wheel is because it is easier in manufacturing that both wheels are the same and only the assembly is different. HALF OF AUGER NOT WORKING


When you got something caught in the auger, the shear-pin probably did it s job and broke, to save the gear box. Remove the old shear pin and install a new one
