They are excellent glasses, but the horrible sticky "grips" make them unpleasant to use.
Can they be cleaned?
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
Simple use soft lint free cloth like old drying up cloth, you need about half a cup of methalayted spirits, can get this from any hardware store.
poke finger into cloth dip into meths proceed to rub sticky coating off binoculars. you will need to keep changing to a new peace of the cloth as soon as it gets coated with the sticky black stuff off binoculars.
keep dipping into meths eventually after say 6 rubs in a particular area you will see and feel a nice hard black plastic, continue all over effected area then finish off with any window cleaner polish until cloth remains clean.STICKY COATING IS NOW GONE IT WAS INFACT A COATING PUT ON THE BINOCULARS TO MAKE THEM NONE SLIP. job done. regards GER8
Thank you so much!!! I raided the garage and found the denatured alcohol, took an old T-shirt of my hubby's (a good sacrifice, since I'd moments before been online looking at new, non-sticky binocs) and went to town on my Bushnells! All the sticky is gone, and I shined them with Windex for a brand new look! I also took my denatured alcohol rag and wiped down my straps - perfect! I'm very grateful, as I wasn't looking forward to making a decision on new binoculars - too confusing and I like what I have. Great advice, ger8ger8!

I to have a pair of Chinon 7-15x25 zoom binoculars again with a sticky outer case.
Any ideas how to clean?
I had the same sticky mess on Bushnell National Audubon Society binoculars. Did not want to be aggressive with any solvents, so I used Spray Nine to remove the black, sticky coating. The shine on the plastic surfaces are clean and unharmed.
I had this with my Chinon. Warning...This may remove printing such as the makers' name from the binoculars. First remove the strap (mine went into the washing machine and came out clean and non sticky). Find a plastic receptacle that your binoculars will fit into and pour in "Tesco Value" "All Purpose Cleaner" to about one inch depth (check on-line for this if you don't have Tesco). Let the binoculars soak in this for an hour or so, turn the over and soak again, make sure that all of the case gets a soak. Being careful not to scratch the lens scrub the old sticky coating off with a stiff sponge or an old used pan scourer (I used both. Make sure that the scourer is old, used and not too abrasive). Keep dipping the scourer/sponge and binoculars in the cleaner as you do this. When you are happy that you have removed the sticky coating, wash your binoculars thoroughly under a warm water tap (faucet) and leave them on a radiator to dry out (mine took about a week).
