Question about Bose & Wave& Music System

1 Answer

Inoperative Bose Wave Radio

Yesterday I noticed the time display was only partial. Attempted to cycle unit on and off with local and remote controls.  No response.  Changed 9V battery.  Still no response.  Removed and restored AC power several times.  Display sometimes missing and at other times it appears to have every display segment illuminated.  Removed upper case and inspected component board.  No visual evidence or odor of overheated parts.

Re: Inoperative Bose Wave Radio

You should contacty Bose directly to find out about service. There may be a fault in the power supply, or one of the circuit boards in the unit. This will require proper troubleshooting and parts replacements.

Bose music system remote is inconsistent.

The notoriously unreliable SMD capacitors which Bose installed are long defective. That's just the start of your problems.

You'll need to replace those defective capacitors with much higher-quality units than the original.

Only a tech experienced with SMD work should attempt this repair.

Replacing the PCB will solve your problem for only a short time, as you are just getting the original standard junk again, but new.

Bose is proprietary. It could be electronic parts that are called capacitors.

I can't get any power to the unit

Tay to contact the nearest bose authorised servicing center because the spares of Bose wave radio is difficult to get out side. Also it uses a mutilayer circuit boar with SMD components. Only A well trained service tech will be able to rectify the fault.

My bose wave system is no responding to the remote. Anything I can do?

The only user serviceable part of this fine system is the battery in the remote. The battery used in most of these remotes is the "button" or "coin" type cell "CR-2032"You can find these at Walmart, Radio Shack, CVS etc. for just a few bucks. Bring the remote batteries with you to match to a replacement.

If that doesn't work, you may need a replacement remote or the radio may need repair.

Good luck!

Yes you have a defective laser assembly. The 139 is a great price as buying the laser lens alone will cost you around 70 .Bose will also upgrade with any new software and will also provide you with a 1 yr warrenty.

Loud popping and static-vol ctrl has no effect on noise

Bose will not release their schematics or parts lists, effectively giving them a monopoly on repair of their units. If you check their web site,, you'll find that they will repair your unit for $100 or possibly give you $200 credit towards a new model. Before you take them up on either offer, you might want to check out the new lines of HD radios. Better souind quality, MUCH lower prices than a Bose.

No power

Unfortunately Bose will not release their schematics or parts lists, effectively giving them a monopoly on repairs. Their web site,, offers to repair most Wave radios for $100 or to give owners of broken sets a $200 allowance towards the purchase of a new Wave. Before spending the big bucks though, you might want to check out the new HD radios. Better sound and a MUCH lower price.
