My kirby vacuum

I recently replaced the belt on my kirby, now it won't pick up anything. I don't think the brush is spinning because the belt is so tight????

Green light no on

HI There,

When the green lights do not come on when vacuuming with a Kirby, this indicates that your belt2_bing.gif has either broken or fallen off. There is a magnet on the beater bar that activates the LED green light when it's spinning.

Here's a helpful video tutorial2_bing.gif that we recorded, that will show you how to replace the belt, as well as perform basic maintenance on your roller brush to prolong the life of your belt as long as possible.

My kirby g5 is not picking up, there is no blockage, but suction has dropped significantly, what could be the problem?

Not to question your description of the problem, but are you sure the suction has dropped? Kirbys don't usually lose suction unless there is a mechanical or electrical problem. When you turn the machine on does it fill with air and expand? If so, then you probably have enough suction. If the bag doesn't fill and expand and your machine is extremely noisy then the fan may be broken and need to be replaced. If you see excessive sparking near the bottom of the handle then you may have a motor problem like stuck or too short carbon brushes or a bad armature. On rare occasions, with Kirby owners who live close to a beach area and vacuum large amounts of sand, the sand actually wears down the vanes of the fan enough to make it useless. To check the fan; first unplug your Kirby from the electrical outlet, remove the brush roll nozzle, slowly spin the fan/belt pulley while observing the surface of the fan, look for cracks or breaks. The fan vanes should be about 3/4 of an inch deep.
If none of the above fixes your problem, look at the brush roll and belt. If your belt has not been changed in the last 12 months, install a new belt. If this is the original brush roll, install a new brush roll.

Doesn't seem like it is picking up very well. Not sure if the roller is working right

Your belt is probably worn or stretched and there for not turning the roller brush the way it should. You should replace that belt at least once a year. If you haven't replaced it recently I would try that. Here is a link to the belt you need:

Kirby generation 3 won't vacuum. It runs and

You may have suction but if the belt is worn the roller brush won't spin and therefore won't pick up anything. You can get a replacement belt here:

The brushes on my kirby are not spinning. What could i do to fix this?

Sounds like a broken belt. Take it to service store or buy a belt and replace it yourself. It's actually more simple than you think. Good luck! Did you get a funny burning smell when the brushes stopped spinning?

My Kirby Ultimate G is not picking up anything and makes a rattle noise when turned on.

Greetings from GoVacuum,

The Kirby vacuum is a very well engineered vacuum cleaner. There's usually not many things that go wrong with them.

You may just need to replace the belt on the machine, this should take care of the not picking up part. Even though the belt may not be broken, it may have stretched to a point where the roller brush is not spinning as fast as it should. This will effect the vacuum's performance, and make it not pick up as well.

Here's a video that we did showing how to replace a belt on Kirby vacuums. If this doesn't take care of the problem, let me know I'd be happy to try and help you determine what the problem is. One other thing you may want to look at, is the fan on the machine. When you take the front agitator housing off of the machine, look inside the vacuum at the fan, make sure that there are no cracks, and that the fan is not broken off.

How do you replace the belt on the Kirby, Model No D50, Serial No. A442867

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
This is an older Kirby vacuum and the front brushroll section of the vacuum and the front brushroll section will come off, 1st you have to remove the front cover (the Kirby Emblem) and under that there is a Kirby spoon or hook and you need to dial off the belt off the belt shaft, once that has been done remove the bottom plate and un-install the Kirby brushroll, check to see if the brushroll spins freely, if it does go onto the next step, if not clean off the hair and thread from either end and then re-check the brushroll, if it still binds up then replace the brushroll and belt with Genuine Kirby belt and brush. Then use the dial to place the belt onto the Kirby spoon / hook. Once the belt is on the hook, install the bottom planter and place then housing of the Kirby on the vacuum and use the lever on the top to secure the fan housing dial the belt onto the pulley and you should be good to go. Kirby Ultimate G will not suck with main brush head attachment

You may need a new belt, it may have stretched enough so it isn't turning the brush roll anymore.
