Nope not normal. only solution i can think of is you have throttle servo plugged into steering slot on reciever.

Spin the rear wheels and make sure nothing such as a small stone is binding something up in the driveline. Check to make sure the motor has not gotten disconnected from the ESC. If you still have problems with it post again and I will try to look further into it.

It sounds like the receiver frequency is not set on the car to receice the signal, get a electronic tech to set itfor you or go to a hobby store they can set for you.
