Question about KitchenAid Dishwashers
I push the start button on my kitchenaid dishwasher. It seems to start but then cancels itself and drains itself ultimately turning off.
The flood switch might be turning on. This is the float unit at the base of the dishwasher. Could be the that the spring is faulty. Press and see if it comes back up. Otherwise there is leak in the dishwasher and water has collected at the base under the switch.
May need the actual model number to provide a more precise solution.

depending on the age of this unit it may have food blocking what is called the "check valve".
on most models it is mounted right on the outlet of the pump housing. one model uses a 4 inch plastic tube style device and is about 1/2 inch on the pump and 1" on the hose. inside of it is where the food items can block the check valve. remove the hose and unscrew the check valve from the pump and see if something is blocking it.
on newer units the check valve is built into the drain hose, if you hose has a 90 degree elbow molded into it where the hose hooks up to the drain pump. once again take the hose off and look inside the hose or try to blow through the hose and see if the hose is clear.
good luck tom

SOURCE: BUZZING SOUND WHEN RUNNING
It sounds as if there is something in the bottom part of the dishwasher arm (it sprays the water around the bottom of the dishwasher). I would suggest that you take out the baskets and then remove and clean all of the parts that water comes out of as well as the bottom drain. If this works or does not, I would also suggest that you run an empty load using 1/4 cup vinegar. Hope this helps!

sounds to me that you may have some suds residue in the dishwasher that keeps it from draining completely. Get you some dishwasher cleaner which you can purchase at wal-mart or wherever you buy your detergent, and clean out your dishwasher. It is a inexpensive test. Alot less expensive than having a tech come to your house. Make sure that your drain hose is mounted higher that where it goes into the drain. This is also a common problem that I encounter in the field. Hope this helps. Let me know if I can help you futher.
