SOURCE: dirt devil purpose for pets vacuum quit working

The motor overheats from the filter being clogged underneath the canister or the canister or both are clogged-without the air flow the motor overheats and shuts off as a precautionary measure.By letting the motor cool off it will start again but will turn off shortly if the filters are not properly cleaned.Hope this helps everyone.

My dirt devil vigor cyclonic pet has no clogs I can find, belt is like new, still won't suction, all filters are clean.

Look for a clog of pet debris right at the intake to the container. It may not be visible unless the container is removed.

Why is pet hair not getting into canister?

this is just a suggestion. I would take off the hose and if you can't see through it if not try pushing a broom handle through it. pet hair is the worst enemy of a vacuum sweeper I know from experience so I opt to try to hand sweep as much as possible.
not only will it clog a hose but it gets into the beater brush and ruins the bearings on the end caps causing you to have to either try to clean it out or purchase a new one.
whichever the case, good luck it is worth a shot to save some money.

Why vaccum not emptying

Hi! If no dirt is entering into the dirt cup it could be that you have a clog in your hose. Detach the hose from both ends and use a broom stick or something similar to carefully loosen and remove any clogs in the hose. Hope this helps! If not you can always reach out to us here on Fixya, Facebook.com/dirtdevil, or Twitter @DirtDevil. Thanks!

Why does my dirt devil swerve get really hot?

Hello! Sounds like your vacuum may be overheating. This is usually caused by either a clog or a filter that needs to be cleaned. Please try the steps below to get your vacuum back up and running.

1. Remove the hose from both ends by pressing the release buttons.
2. Use a broom stick or something similar to gently loosen and remove any clogs from the hose.
3. Remove the nozzle from the cleaner by pressing the release button and pulling the nozzle from the body.
4. Use a wooden spoon or something similar to loosen up and remove any clogs from the nozzle or the lower tube.
5. Remove the dirt cup. Lift open the lid to the dirt cup.
6. Remove the filter from dirt cup. Remove the filter frame from dirt cup. Hold filter under running water to rinse. Allow 24 hours to air dry before replacing.
7. Check the exhaust filter by twisting off the filter cover.
8. If dirty, the exhaust filter can be washed as well. Hold filter under running water to rinse. Allow 24 hours to air dry.

This should stop the vacuum from overheating. If not please reach out to us here on Fixya, Facebook.com/dirtdevil or Twitter @DirtDevil. Thanks!

The pores of the filter might be clogged. To test it turn it on without the filter or dirt cup installed and let it run for a while. If it runs ok you should install a new filter

The dirt is staying in the hose when I vacuum, not

that means there is no air flow thru your machine .. thats often caused by clogged (other) filters ..or sometimes a clogged hose .. you can check to make sure you can poke something thru the hose .. a stick or handle, hose or wire (making sure you dont poke thru the side of the hose) .. there are other filters and passageways in the unit that require cleaning or replacement .. if they get clogged then you will have your simptoms .. since there is lilttle air flow then the motor may overheat .. so dont run it long in that condition .. take all the "dirt cup" parts out and wash them all ...

No suction through top of hose - HELP

disconnect the hose where it goes into the clear tube on top of the base.there will be a little flapper door there when yo take it off.open the door and take a coat hanger with the end bent over like a hook and pull the dirt clog out of there.but first take the dirt cup off and remove the filter,if its clogged with dirt you won't have any suction.try using the vacuum without the filter in the dirt cup.if you have suction then then thats your problem ,a cloggeds filter

Dirt Devil Purpose for Pets won't ****!!!!

The filters will need cleaning. Make sure the entire cone filter has been gently brushed getting rid of all dust. Also check in the main dust channel where the beater bar is. It may well be clogged and best to check the hose too.

the intake hose is clogged thats the clear looking hose that comes up from the bottom on the back side.you will need a coat hanger wither the end bent so its rounded.on the back where you sere the clear hose it conects to a fitting that is held in by one or 2 screws take them out and work the coat hanger down through the intake hose.you should be able to push the clog out through the bottom
